  Adoption fee: $750 Spumoni: Three Flavors of Perfect   Spumoni is a 2–3 year old, 13-pound Terrier mix who came to DPS Rescue from the shelter. Much like her namesake dessert, she offers an irresistible combination: affectionate companion, enthusiastic adventurer, and champion lounger. She is sweet without being overwhelming, cuddly without being demanding, and playful without bouncing off the walls. Her foster describes her as “darn near perfect,” and it is easy to understand why.   Watching Her Joy Return   When Spumoni first arrived, she was quiet and still getting comfortable. Each day, another delightful piece of her personality has emerged. First came her inaugural zoomie around the house. The following day, she discovered the joy of playing with a toy. Then she spotted squirrels and became completely captivated by their suspicious activities.   Watching Spumoni find her happiness has been incredibly special. Beneath her initially reserved exterior was a cheerful, curious little dog just waiting to feel safe enough to shine.   The Perfect Amount of Everything   Spumoni is a snuggler, but she does not need to be in someone’s lap every second of the day. She enjoys following her foster from room to room, yet she is also content to stay behind and continue napping when nothing exciting appears to be happening. She will relax on the floor while her person works, cuddle beside them when it is time to unwind, or eagerly head out when an adventure is offered.   Her foster says that Spumoni matches the energy of the household, making her remarkably easy to have around. She is affectionate but not overbearing, attentive but not demanding, and always ready to give or receive just the right amount of love.   Mornings are when Spumoni is at her cuddliest. She sleeps soundly on her foster’s bed all night and politely waits for her person to stir before beginning the day. Those sleepy morning snuggles have quickly become her foster’s favorite part of life with Spumoni.   Walks, Squirrels, and Social Engagements   Spumoni starts her day around 6:00 a.m. with a walk. She has excellent leash manners, does not pull, and reliably takes care of her business while she is out. She loves sniffing her way through the neighborhood and has recently developed a serious interest in squirrels. She does not bark at people or dogs along the way.   After her morning walk, Spumoni returns home for breakfast. She is a bit of a grazer who may eat part of her kibble and return to finish it later.   When her foster comes home from work, Spumoni is ready for an afternoon walk and whatever adventure might follow. She is happiest exploring on foot, although she is just small enough to ride in a sling for quick trips into stores. She can also sit in a stroller while dining at a restaurant—as long as her companion remembers to provide regular pets.   Wherever she goes, Spumoni greets people with gentle enthusiasm. She does not jump all over them or demand attention; she simply approaches sweetly and hopes they might be willing to offer a few scratches. People regularly comment on how friendly she is.   Home Alone and Household Manners   When left home alone, Spumoni stays in her foster’s bedroom. She may whine briefly as her person leaves, but camera footage shows that she quickly settles and spends the day sleeping comfortably on the bed. She would certainly prefer to join her humans, but she handles the workday beautifully.   Spumoni appears to be fully housetrained. She has never had an accident in her foster home, reliably potties on walks, and comfortably holds it overnight and during the workday.   She has not shown any destructive chewing or digging, and her foster has yet to hear her bark—even once. She already knows “sit” and is an exceptionally easy houseguest.   Dogs, Cats, and Family Life   Spumoni does not currently live with other animals, but she has been friendly and respectful when meeting neighborhood dogs. She even attempted to initiate play with a friend’s Doodle. She was also comfortable around the cat at the DPS safehouse.   Spumoni has not lived with or been directly tested around children, but her foster believes she could enjoy being part of a family. As always, introductions should be thoughtful and supervised while everyone gets acquainted.   Coat and Grooming   Spumoni appears to have a low-shedding coat. She will benefit from routine brushing, nail trims, baths as needed, and regular grooming to keep her looking and feeling her best.   One Scoop Fits All   Spumoni could thrive in many different types of homes. She would enjoy a family, perhaps with a yard and plenty of people to love, but she could be equally happy with an individual or couple who includes her in everyday life. Her ideal adopters will appreciate leisurely cuddles as much as neighborhood walks, restaurant outings, and squirrel surveillance.   Spumoni is one of those rare “plug-and-play” dogs who seems ready to slip effortlessly into a loving home. She is housetrained, quiet, sociable, affectionate, excellent on leash, and comfortable spending time alone. Best of all, she is revealing more of her joyful personality every day.   Spumoni may be named after a three-flavored dessert, but this little lovebug is the complete package.
