Adoption fee: $800  Meet Kenny Rogers! You Picked a Fine Time to Fall in Love! At 6 years old, Kenny Rogers is proof that sometimes the quietest little guys have the biggest hearts. This adorable Shih Tzu came to us from a breeder, along with four other dogs. When Kenny first arrived in his foster home, he was understandably unsure about this whole new world. In fact, when his foster family tried to take him for his first walk, Kenny simply planted his little behind firmly on the porch and said, “Nope. I think I’ll stay right here.”  But Kenny has discovered that walks are actually pretty wonderful! These days, he happily heads out for 2–3 walks a day, usually 20–40 minutes each. He takes his time, stops frequently to explore, and enjoys a leisurely stroll rather than rushing anywhere. He’s not exactly training for a marathon and honestly, Kenny thinks life is better when you stop and smell the…well, whatever you can find! Kenny is an incredibly easygoing little guy. He’s perfectly content lounging around wherever his family happens to be and can happily hang out for hours without needing constant attention. He absolutely loves cuddles, but he isn’t demanding about them. He’s not a Velcro dog, but now that he has gotten comfortable, he definitely prefers being near his people. At bedtime, Kenny has made his preferences very clear. His first three nights, he was perfectly happy sleeping in his crate in an x-pen in the kitchen. Then he apparently decided that being alone was overrated and announced his desire to move closer to the action with a little barking protest! These days, Kenny sleeps peacefully in his crate in his foster family’s bedroom. Kenny is more of a couch potato and professional lounger than an adventurer. However, as he has settled in, his personality has really started to shine. His foster family says he has become noticeably more bouncy and energetic over the last several days. It’s pretty adorable watching him come out of his shell! He also has an adorable feline friendship. Kenny lives with a cat who weighs two to three times more than he does, and the two get along surprisingly well. In fact, Kenny may hold the record for being the foster dog his foster cat has liked the most! Kenny walks beautifully on leash and is interested in exploring his surroundings, although he definitely prefers a relaxed pace. He isn’t bothered by other dogs and doesn’t bark at them, and squirrels don’t seem to tempt him into a chase. He is pee-pad trained, doesn’t chew, dig, or get into trouble, and rarely barks. He is also wonderfully friendly. When his foster family’s brother and young children visited, Kenny was fantastic. His foster brother went so far as to say he wouldn’t mind if Kenny stayed forever. Kenny isn’t looking for an extremely active family who wants a hiking or adventure buddy. If you want a little dog to carry around in a backpack on your outdoor excursions, Kenny might happily accept the VIP treatment but he would much rather be your cozy companion at home. What Kenny really wants is simple: a loving home, a soft place to land, some leisurely walks, plenty of cuddles, and people who will love him for the sweet little soul he is. His foster family says it best: Kenny is super lovable, incredibly sweet, and the whole family really enjoys his company. So if you’re ready to “know when to hold ’em, know when to fold ’em,” and most importantly, know when to fall in love… Kenny Rogers is ready to meet you.
