* This dog will be at the Pet Food Express Pet Fair - San Jose North on Saturday, September 12th and Sunday, September 13th from 10AM–3PM both days (unless adopted prior to the event).  5148 Stevens Creek Blvd, San Jose All DPS Rescue dogs are spayed/neutered, vaccinated, dewormed, flea/tick treated, and microchipped prior to adoption. Adoption Fee: $800 Say hello to Maya, an 8 year old Golden Retriever weighing about 55 pounds, who is ready to find the loving forever family she deserves. Maya was surrendered by her owner, and while leaving the home she knew has been a big transition, she has shown her foster family just how incredibly sweet, loving, and resilient she is. Maya is the kind of dog who believes love, cuddles, and attention are the best things in life! She absolutely loves being around her people and is especially obsessed with kids. Her favorite part of the day is getting to play outside with the children in her foster home. She’ll happily run around the yard with them, and on warm days, you can find Maya having the time of her life splashing around in the kiddie pool! Inside the house, Maya has a wonderful balance. She can be playful and energetic outdoors, but once she comes inside, she is perfectly happy to lounge around and relax with her family. She is both a cuddler and a snuggler, and if she feels like she isn’t getting quite enough attention, she’ll simply come over and remind you that she is there! She loves affection but is also wonderfully independent and can entertain herself while her people get things done. Maya lives with a Labrador Retriever in her foster home. She hadn’t had much experience with other dogs before coming into foster care, so she can be a little nervous when meeting new dogs, but she has been doing well. She would also be perfectly happy as the only dog in the home, where she can soak up all the love for herself. She has not been around cats or other small animals, so that would be new territory for her. Maya enjoys going for walks and is still working on her leash manners. She can pull at first because she’s excited to get going, but she settles down as the walk continues. If another dog barks at her, Maya may bark back. For now, she should remain leashed until she is fully trained and comfortable with her surroundings. And when it comes to house manners, Maya is a superstar! She is completely house-trained, has had no accidents inside, and does amazing in her crate. She isn’t a destructive chewer, although she has been known to occasionally borrow a child’s stuffed animal. Her foster family says the funniest part is the look she gives when she knows she’s been caught, a hilarious little side-eye that looks exactly like a toddler who knows they are guilty! Maya’s foster family describes her as sweet, gentle, patient, affectionate, and playful. She would absolutely love a family with children who will include her in their adventures, but a home without kids would also be wonderful as long as she receives plenty of attention, affection, and companionship. If affection is your love language, Maya might just be your girl. She is the kind of dog who wants to be part of your family, share your days, play in the yard, curl up beside you, and make sure you never forget how much she loves you. And when Maya is truly happy? She smiles and she makes sure everyone knows it!  Maya has so much love left to give. All she needs now is a family ready to give her the same unconditional love she so freely gives to everyone around her.
