Description

At 6 months old and about 50 pounds, Thumper is a handsome black German Shepherd mix who may have grown into his body a little faster than his brain caught up! He still has plenty of puppy enthusiasm, including adorable little “hugs” and jumps when he's excited and the happiest wiggle dance you'll ever see.Despite being a puppy, Thumper has fantastic house manners. He is fully house and potty trained, has had no destructive behavior or accidents, and is wonderful in his crate. He eats his meals in his crate, sleeps quietly through the night, and does well when left home alone with his toys and blankets. He doesn't even try to destroy his bedding or toys! He does occasionally have a little happy pee when he's especially excited, but otherwise he's an absolute superstar.Thumper is very food motivated, which makes him eager to learn and please. He'll happily work for treats and is the kind of pup who is likely to thrive with positive-reinforcement training. And if you're looking for a professional cuddle buddy, Thumper has you covered. The moment you reach down to pet him, he'll often immediately flop over and get ready for a belly rub. He loves being close to his people and will follow you around the house like your very own furry shadow.Thumper is also a fetch enthusiast! He LOVES chasing the ball and does a great job bringing it right back to you. His only minor issue is that he's still working on the “drop it” portion of the game. He eventually lets go, though, because he's always ready for another round!Thumper does well with older children, but because he is a big, energetic puppy who is still learning how to manage his excitement, he would be best suited to a home with older kids. He doesn't always realize just how big he is, especially when he's excited. He can feed off the energy around him, and when things get chaotic or especially exciting, his puppy zoomies can become quite physical. He may barrel into people without realizing it, so younger or smaller children could be unintentionally knocked over. With his size, energy level, and enthusiasm, older children who are more able to handle his big-dog puppy energy would be the best match for Thumper.Thumper currently enjoys a daily 15–20 minute walk, enrichment activities, chews, and plenty of fetch and playtime in the yard. A fenced yard isn't strictly required, but it would be a wonderful bonus for this playful, energetic boy. He'll need a family committed to giving him regular physical and mental exercise, along with continued training and guidance as he grows.Named after the playful and sweet cottontail bunny from Disney's Bambi, Thumper lives up to his name perfectly. He's playful, affectionate, energetic, eager to please, and ready for his forever family. If you're looking for a goofy, loving puppy with surprisingly excellent manners and a serious talent for fetch and belly rubs, Thumper might just be your guy!If you are interested in Thumper, fill out an application at this link to get the ball rolling - https://pethavenmn.org/adopt/adoptable-dogs/dog-adoption-application/The adoption fee is $550.
