Adoption fee: $800 Meet Johnny Cash! The Man in Black with a Heart of Gold! Ladies and gentlemen, introducing Johnny Cash, an 8 year old shih tzu that weighs a whopping 11.2 lb. This little gentleman may not be filling concert arenas anytime soon, but he is definitely ready to headline your living room! Johnny came to DPS Rescue from a breeder along with four other dogs, and he’s now discovering what it means to be a beloved family dog. It took him about three days to settle into his foster home, and once he did, his true personality came shining through. And what a personality it is! Johnny is quiet, relaxed, independent, and one of the happiest little guys you’ll ever meet. His tail seems to have a permanent WAG setting! He may not be the type to climb into your lap and demand cuddles, but he absolutely loves being around his people. He’ll happily watch what everyone is doing from a comfortable distance, wagging away like he’s saying, “Yep, I approve of this household.” And Johnny has mastered something many dogs struggle with: the guilt-free goodbye. His foster says when they leave the house, Johnny simply gives them a giant happy WAG as if to say, “Have fun! I’ll be right here doing my thing!” No sad puppy eyes. No dramatic goodbye. And when they return? Johnny greets them with his own adorable happy dance before promptly going back to whatever important business he has going on. Johnny is definitely a professional couch potato. He enjoys lounging around the living room and taking life at a nice, easy pace. He doesn’t chew things, dig, bark at visitors, or cause a ruckus. In fact, his foster family has never even heard him make a sound! Johnny is basically the quiet neighbor everyone wishes they had. When it’s time for a walk, Johnny turns into quite the little gentleman. He walks respectfully on leash, checks in with his people often, and wants to say hello to everyone he meets. He’s got plenty of friendliness packed into that little body. Johnny also absolutely loves his crate. Even with the door wide open, he’ll happily choose to go inside and relax. He is still working on his potty-training skills and will need a home ready to continue the training. Johnny would love a home where he can continue learning and decompressing while being surrounded by people who understand that an older dog may need a little patience as he adjusts to his new life. His foster believes he would be happy with any type of family. He loves kids and dogs, while also appreciating having some quiet time to himself. But perhaps the best way to describe Johnny is exactly how his foster did: “He is the cutest!!! That’s it!” And honestly… we couldn’t agree more. Johnny Cash may have started his journey in a breeder situation, but he’s ready for his next chapter and this time, he wants to be someone’s forever family member, couch companion, walking buddy, and little shadow from a respectful distance. If you’re looking for a sweet, quiet, happy little guy who doesn’t need the spotlight to steal your heart, Johnny Cash is ready to meet you.
