* This dog will be at the Pet Food Express Pet Fair - San Jose North on Saturday, September 12th and Sunday, September 13th from 10AM–3PM both days.  5148 Stevens Creek Blvd, San Jose All DPS Rescue dogs are spayed/neutered, vaccinated, dewormed, flea/tick treated, and microchipped prior to adoption.  Adoption fee: $650 Meet Chalupa Some dogs want to be your hiking buddy. Some want to chase a ball all day. And then there’s Chalupa, who has decided her life’s mission is to become permanently attached to your neck.  This adorable 10 year old Chihuahua mix weighs just 7.5 pounds and came to us from a shelter. But after spending time in her foster home, we’ve discovered that Chalupa is basically a tiny, four-legged love sponge who wants nothing more than to be close to her person. From the moment she arrived at her foster home, Chalupa has been a velcro girl. Her foster mother describes her as wanting to be “in my skin at all times,” and honestly, we believe it! If you’re looking for a dog who will follow you around, curl up next to you, and make sure you never feel lonely again, Chalupa would like to submit her application. She absolutely loves to cuddle and has a special talent for curling herself right into her foster’s neck. She is sweet, submissive, affectionate, and incredibly loving. She hasn’t needed much time to warm up, she has been this snuggly and affectionate since day one. She does have one adorable little quirk: when you need to pick her up, she may crouch down and play a little game of “Catch Me If You Can!” She’s not trying to escape forever; she just likes making you work for the privilege of scooping up 7.5 pounds of cuteness. Chalupa’s Daily Schedule Chalupa is a girl who believes in beauty sleep and flexible scheduling. She wakes up whenever her foster wakes up whether that’s 6am or 9am. She’s not setting an alarm because she has places to be. Around 7:30–8:00am, she enjoys breakfast followed by a potty walk. After that, she’s perfectly happy to relax while her foster works. If her foster is home, though, Chalupa is always happy to squeeze in some playtime. Most of the day, she’s a mellow little lounger, but she absolutely has her moments! Give her some attention and suddenly that tiny body comes alive with zoomies, wiggles, and a tail that refuses to stop wagging. Chalupa has been wonderful with her foster’s small dog and two cats from day one. In fact, she and her canine foster sibling, Bear, have become quite the little duo. They cuddle together, play together, and even groom each other. It’s basically their own tiny doggy friendship club, and Chalupa clearly has VIP membership. She is also fantastic with the cats. Her foster says she can be trusted alone with them, which is a pretty impressive recommendation from someone living with two feline roommates! She hasn’t been around children in her foster home, but because she is an older, very submissive little lady, a home without young children may be the best fit for her. Chalupa does well on a leash. She occasionally decides to randomly stop during walks because apparently even a 7.5-pound dog needs to stop and contemplate life sometimes but overall, she’s a good little walking companion. She is mostly house trained and does best when taken outside regularly. She can even let herself in and out through the screen door, so she’s got the whole indoor/outdoor routine pretty well figured out. She isn’t destructive, doesn’t chew things when bored, and doesn’t dig up the yard. She also isn’t a big barker. Her foster has noticed that she may bark at unfamiliar people working in the yard, like gardeners, but she has been perfectly fine with people such as house cleaners inside the home. Chalupa isn’t looking for a family who wants to run a marathon with her. She’d much rather spend her days lounging, cuddling, taking leisurely walks, and being someone’s little shadow. Chalupa is the kind of dog who reminds you that sometimes the best things in life come in tiny packages. She doesn’t need a huge yard, a busy social calendar, or endless adventures. She needs someone who will appreciate her sweet senior spirit, let her be close, and give her the cozy, loving life she deserves. She may have arrived at the shelter as just another little dog waiting for her chance, but her foster has discovered something very special: Chalupa is a perfect little snuggly angel who just wants to cuddle her way into your heart and preferably into the crook of your neck.
