Description

Hatch date: Spring 2023   Luno is a 3 year old male cockatiel, he was DNA teste  In May of 2023 he was brought home from The Bird House in East Brunswick, NJ where he was hand raised.   He came home as soon as he was weaned.    He is hand tame and will step up to your finger to come out of cage.  However he does not like people sticking their fingers through the bars. He has been known to sometimes nip if you do this.    He has been well cared for and loved his whole life.   It is with great sadness that his owner is choosing to rehome him.     He is in a home with several different people (genders)  He will go to just about anyone, that is until his favorite person enters the room, then he only had eyes for her.    They are looking for the perfect person or family for Luno.  They would prefer a home with small children.   They want him to have the best birdie life with someone who has the time for him, who understands the commitment owning a bird comes with.  Someone who will keep him safe and happy.    Luno is a very needy bird in the sense of wanting to be out of the cage and with his human all the time.  He is very vocal, and will make calls  if you leave the room and often whines/cries when he is in his cage.     When he is out of his cage he is full of adventure, loves to explore, play and learn.   He can say some phrases such as "HI", "Come here", and "Whatcha doing".   He is very smart, and  likes to play peekaboo.   When he is happy he starts singing some songs he knows…if you are happy and you know it,  and he sings cookie, cookie.   He can learn so much more with someone who just spends time with him.   He has recently been limited to out of cage time in the very early morning for about 1/2 hour.   This is not enough for him. He needs more attention, love, and playtime.    Luno loves the owners dog and tries to fly on her back. He is used to the dog barking, vacuuming, etc.   He doesn’t really have a fear of anything.   Because of this he NEEDS strict supervision if other animals are in the home. NOT all animals will want or allow this behavior!   He alerts very loudly if he sees something different.   If he has a view of the front walkway he will alerted you that someone was walking up the lawn.   He has sounded the alarm when he saw a bug in his house. lol Anything different.   They call him the watch bird.    Luno is a really good flyer.  He has never had his wings clipped.   At first we suggest to close all blinds and such so he wont fly into the glass.  Will need time to settle into his new environment.   Luno doesn’t like to share his favorite person.     He has a bit of a jealousy streak. Luno has tried to chase  away others in the his home if they come by his person.   But, when alone with others in the house he is fine with them.     Luno can get loud for food when we eat dinner.   He wants French fries, baked potato, bread, his favorite is pizza crust.  Which we discourage and will be offering much healthier options!   If you are okay with some noise, because he is full of chatter, you have the time to dedicate to him,  and you have a love of birds, then Luno would be a great pet for you.   He will  take time to warm up to you, as all birds have trust issues at first.    Patience is needed.   Patience, kindness, time and of course love will win him over. He has so much love to give.   Luno is participating in our Help with Rehoming program and is still with his family in Freehold, NJ.   He will only be adopted to a forever home within driving distance.   We will NOT ship our birds.  For the Love of Birds is a group of dedicated foster homes throughout NJ and Eastern PA.     We do not have a central location.  We only allow approved applicants to make visits.      If interested in adopting Luno, please visit our website ftlob.rescuegroups.org.  Please read our adoption policies & procedures and complete an adoption application.
