* This dog will be at the Pet Food Express Pet Fair - San Jose North on Saturday, September 12th and Sunday, September 13th from 10AM–3PM both days.  5148 Stevens Creek Blvd, San Jose All DPS Rescue dogs are spayed/neutered, vaccinated, dewormed, flea/tick treated, and microchipped prior to adoption. Adoption fee: $800 Meet Garth Brooks!  Ladies and gentlemen, introducing the one, the only… Garth Brooks!  At just 5.2 pounds, Garth may be tiny enough to fit in your arms, but he has a personality that takes up the whole room! This handsome little guy is about 10 years old and came to DPS Rescue from a breeder along with four other dogs. After spending much of his life in a very different environment, Garth has discovered something wonderful: being part of a family is pretty amazing! And according to his foster family, Garth has completely stolen their hearts which tells you just how special this little guy is! Garth’s ideal morning starts around 6:30 AM, when he heads outside to potty and explore before enjoying breakfast. Then comes approximately 10 minutes of playing catch… because apparently even country music legends need their exercise! Once he decides his work for the day is complete, Garth flips onto his back and announces that it is officially BELLY RUB TIME. And belly rubs aren’t just something Garth enjoys, they are his favorite thing in the entire world. Sleeping comes in a very close second. Garth is an incredibly easy going little companion. He doesn’t get into things, doesn’t chew on things, doesn’t dig, and rarely barks. Most of his day is happily spent relaxing in his bed, soaking up affection, and enjoying the company of his people. When his foster mom works from home, you’ll often find him curled up beside her feet. If he decides he’s ready for some attention, he’ll give her a little scratch or roll onto his back with those big puppy-dog eyes that practically say, “Excuse me… belly rubs, please?”  This little guy also believes that wherever his family goes, he should go too! Garth loves car rides and adventures and enjoys being included in family activities. Because he’s only 5.2 pounds, his foster family often carries him in a pet sling when they’re out and about. He happily hangs out, observes the world around him, and sometimes takes a little snooze while being carried around. Talk about traveling in style! Garth has bonded with the entire family, including the children, although his foster mom definitely holds the title of "Favorite Human". Even when she leaves, however, Garth is perfectly content hanging out with the rest of the family. He has also done well with visitors, occasionally giving a few tiny barks until he’s decided, “Okay, you’re one of the good ones.” Once you’ve earned his trust, he’s happy to settle in. Like any dog, Garth does have a few things his future family will need to continue working on. Leash training is still a work in progress. When a leash is put on him, he currently tends to freeze rather than walk. His family will need to continue patiently helping him understand that a leash isn’t scary and that walks can be fun. Garth is also working on his potty training skills and will need a home that is patient and knows that you can teach an older dog new tricks. He gets frequent potty breaks, but at 5.2 pounds, his bladder is tiny too! He’s also a bit of a food critic. Garth has a refined taste for wet food. He’s also waiting his turn for dental care, so his food preferences may change once that’s taken care of. But if you’re looking for a dog who wants to spend his golden years surrounded by love, comfort, family, car rides, cozy beds, and an endless supply of belly rubs, Garth Brooks might just be your perfect match. He may not be ready to headline a stadium tour just yet but give this little guy a loving home and he’ll happily make your living room his stage.  Garth Brooks has spent enough of his life without knowing what it feels like to truly belong.
