Rachel is a sassy, 5 year old spayed female cat, up to date on vaccinations and full of personality! She needs to be an only cat. Here’s what her foster volunteer says about her:   How would you describe the cat's general personality? Rachel is playful and social but likes things the way she likes them. She is happy to have people nearby, and often head-butts for head pets. When she's had enough, she lets you know with a hiss or nip. She loves to play with pretty much any kind of toy (catnip mouse, crinkle ball, spring) and loves to scratch (extremely enthusiastically) at horizontal and vertical scratchers. She has a range of sounds and likes to slow-blink back and forth. Does the cat enjoy being pet? Yes, primarily on the head, when she asks for pets. When she's done, she's DONE and lets you know.  If yes, on what parts of its body does the cat like to be pet? head Are there any parts of its body that the cat does NOT like being touched? Rachel is very particular about her human interaction. She will occasionally accept pets on her back but her head is really the sweet spot. Does the cat come on your lap? not now - we fostered her two years ago and she often came to sit next to me on the couch, lying on my legs. This time around she sits near, but not on. Does the cat like to be held? probably not. Does the cat sleep in your bed? Yes! Does the cat seek your attention? Yes. Rachel is very social and has a range of chirps, meows, purrs, hisses, and growls. She is happy when people come into the room and asks for head pets. She follows you to the food bowl, water bowl, litter box.  Does the cat like to play? YES. She's more of a solo player, but very playful. What are the cat's favorite games and toys? Crinkle ball, catnip mouse, spring, scratcher - she winds herself around the scratching post and has a great time. How vocal is the cat? Medium - she has lots of sounds, but isn't a loud/annoying meower at all. What kinds of sounds does the cat make? Many -  chirps, meows, purrs, hisses, and growls Does the cat scratch a scratcher? YES - enthusiastically If no, please explain. Does the cat always use the litter box? yes. If no, please explain. What food and frequency is the cat currently eating? Currently, Rachel is eating dry food only (per her surrenderer, who said she throws up after wet food). Is the cat picky about food? What is the cat's favorite treat? What medication is the cat on, and how is it administered? N/A Does the cat ever swat (claws in) at you? If so, under what circumstances? Yes, when she's had too much petting. Unforutnately there is no way to tell when she's had too much petting - she goes from happy to not happy on her own schedule. Has the cat ever scratched (claws out) you? Does the cat ever nip (teeth without breaking skin) you? yes - same as swatting Has the cat ever bitten you (breaking skin)? To the best of your knowledge, how does the cat react to new people? Social? Fearful? She's quite social and happy to have people in the room with her.   If you have observed the cat with other animals, please describe how they get on? Rachel is not a fan of other cats. She hisses at our resident cats (who are used to foster cats) through the door. Does that cat have any cute/quirky traits that aren’t covered by the previous questions? I think Rachel is fabulous. She knows what she wants and what she doesn't want and makes no excuses. As long as you don't take it personally when she's done with you, she's quite companionable and super cute with her one ear and giant whiskers. She's happy to sit near while you're on the computer or reading, and loves to slow-blink back and forth. In your opinion, what is the best thing about the cat? Why should an adopter choose THIS cat to adopt? As a foster, Rachel is "the one who got away" for me, and I'm so happy to have a chance to foster her a second time (she was adopted two years ago and then surrendered this week). She is social and vocal and playful. She definitely wants to be around people, but doesn't always want to be pet (and when she does want to be pet, it's not for a long time). She is pretty clear about her wants and I just love that she has such strong feelings.  What are the cat's challenges and how have you found to best manage them? When Rachel is done being pet, she is DONE. Don't take it personally - instead, be happy she's so clear about what she wants.
