Meet Yumi, the gorgeous tortie. Yumi came to the Shelter after her previous home was just not the right fit. Yumi is a tortie cat who has the typical torti-tude. She is usually very sweet and enjoys interaction but does sometimes get overstimulated. Overstimulation in cats is common but requires people interacting to observe the cat’s body language, especially when petting them. Tail twitches, ears rotating back and any rippling of the skin on the back can be signs that the cat is “done”. Being mindful of interactions is key to preventing a cat from tipping over from “this is nice” to “this is too much”. Yumi particularly does not enjoy restraint when being groomed or having her nails cut. Adopters should work with their veterinarian to identify ways to make these husbandry practices be fear free in nature, which will likely prevent Yumi from escalating into overstimulation. Yumi was indoors only and used her litterbox reliably. She lived with a 3 year old neutered male cat previously and enjoyed playing. Yumi prefers a home free of dogs. Yumi still has some spunky energy. She enjoys playing with toys and watching out the window. Please note: Our Santa Cruz location’s Shelter hours are 11-6pm, 7 days a week! Although clients can walk through and see any animals in their kennels during open hours, we end “meet and greets” (aka meeting an animal out of the kennel) at 4:30pm every day. If you’d like to meet an animal out of the kennel, please arrive before 4:00pm to allow for time to discuss individual animals and meet them.
