Description

Captain is a loving and loyal senior boy who is ready to trade shelter life for short adventures, a comfy couch, and plenty of time with his people! This affectionate boy has made friends easily and loves pets, hugs, and attention from the people around him. Captain is playful, rambunctious, vocal, and friendly with visitors, and his previous owner described him as such a friendly dog that has truly been man’s best friend. He enjoys squeaky toys and is always ready to have a little fun, but at this stage in his life, Captain is also dreaming of the simple things: short adventures followed by lounging on the couch with his favorite people. Captain knows sit, down, off, treat, and no, and he will let you know when he needs to go outside by pushing on the door. Like many dogs adjusting to a new environment, he will need time to decompress while settling into a new home and routine. Captain is not crate trained and was previously confined to a room when left alone.** Historically, he kept himself busy with toys while alone but may get curious about other objects if he doesn’t have enough appropriate toys and enrichment to keep him occupied!** Captain does okay with baths and is comfortable being touched anywhere, but car rides can be scary for him though he recently went out on a Miles & Mutts adventure and did well! He is also afraid of loud noises and cold water, so he may appreciate a patient family who can help him feel safe and comfortable while experiencing new things. Captain has done well with men, women, and children and is incredibly affectionate with the people he meets. Captain has been known to bark at both dogs and cats and is not recommended for a home with small animals, as he may chase them. During his stay with us he has not been reactive towards other dogs and though chatty, he has a friendly demeanor. We can provide a dog meet and greet prior to adopting if needed! Shelter life has been especially hard on Captain. Although he hasn’t been with us for very long, the stress of the shelter environment is beginning to weigh on this sweet senior boy. What Captain truly needs is a chance to decompress in a loving home where he can feel safe, relax, and enjoy his golden years surrounded by people who love him.
