Meet Beauty!update 08/31/26Beauty is doing great! She is one intelligent dog and walking her is such an easy talk. it's rare to see shepherds with zero reactivity during walks towards people or dogs. Dogs can bark at her and she ignores them. Unfortunately a couple of times we have encountered people walking their off Leash dogs who have zero training and recall coming up to us and beauty has been a champ. If the other dog tries something she will growl back but she holds back. She is ok with humans, ignores them During outings. If people come into the home she will bark as most guard dogs do but easily quiets down when you tell her. She is definitely a dog that loves and trust her peopleand her people can trust she is safe with them but for new strangers to just come up to her and pet her is not her "thing" she is Not really seeking attention and introductions need to be properly done. she Has not shown any aggression To people. She has been mingling with the arwob dogs and is good, we can Tell she is definitely a dog that"bossy" personality meaning if a dog comes up to her personal space like a pup jumping on her she will tolerate but will put them down when they are out of control, same if she has her ball and they try to grab it.  we can say she would be an excellent companion for someone who wants a protector who they can trust while enjoying outings like walks or car drives or enjoying dinner at a pet friendly location. She will be good As an only dog but enjoys dogs she gets to know. We don't believe she will be a dog park kind of dog but perhaps that's for a new owner to determine Once basic training has been instilled. For now, IF you are looking for a working dog she seems to love to have a job she likes to learn and is up for doing something. She is a very patient dog who just chills in the home and fun outside during outings or during yard play Time.  Beauty is an amazing dog with a heartbreaking past—and an incredible capacity to love, trust, and learn. The important facts first: Beauty is a 2-year-old, full-grown, spayed female who is healthy, house-trained, and crate-trained. She is a true German Shepherd Dog (GSD), with all the loyalty, intelligence, devotion, and breed characteristics that come with being a GSD. If you’re not familiar with the GSD breed, please take the time to do the research and understand their needs. If you’re still interested after learning about the breed, we would love to have you apply to foster, foster-to-adopt, or adopt Beauty. While we are open to foster-to-adopt arrangements, finding Beauty her forever home is our priority. Despite everything she has been through, and we’ll get to that in a minute, she is loving, loyal, affectionate with the people she trusts, and eager to learn. She already knows basic commands including sit, down, shake, and up, even though she has had very little formal training. Her absolute favorite thing? FETCH. The moment she sees a tennis ball her whole personality comes alive. If you have a yard where you can play fetch with her, we suspect you will have one very happy dog. Beauty is currently living at Casa de ARWOB with other foster dogs and cats. She is a wonderful companion. She enjoys walks, rides beautifully in the truck, and loves being outside. She is not a terrible leash puller, and we believe she will improve significantly with consistent training. She has had essentially no formal training, which means her potential is enormous. Imagine what this girl could become when she finally has someone who can dedicate time, structure, patience, and positive training to her. On day 1 with us, she was understandably cautious. During our first 12 hours together, she was unsure of me, but she quickly began to relax. Today, I can brush her, bathe her, give injections, trim her nails, open her mouth, clean her ears, and handle her without concern. This is a dog who wants to trust her people. She just needs someone willing to earn that trust. When Beauty arrived, she weighed only 60 pounds. After just two weeks in our care, she is up to 67 pounds—but her ribs are still visible. We believe a healthy Beauty may ultimately weigh around 75 pounds. Beauty has not been destructive and is not generally a barker. Because she has only been with us since mid-August, however, we cannot yet say exactly how she will behave once she feels completely at home. She has occasionally barked at something happening outside, and she has a big bark. How is Beauty with other dogs? We believe Beauty may be dog-friendly, but we are being careful and honest about what we know. She has shown no reactivity toward the small, large, male, female, adult, or young dogs she has encountered in the home. She can walk through the same room with them without issue while we rotate dogs in and out of the yard. She’s not even reactive when other dogs are playing in the room where she is in her crate. However, Beauty has been under quarantine, so we have not yet allowed off-leash interaction with the other dogs. Her quarantine is expected to end at the end of August, at which point we will be able to learn more about her dog-to-dog behavior. As always, dog introductions will need to be thoughtful and appropriate. How is Beauty with cats? Beauty should NOT live in a home with cats. We discovered fairly quickly that a cat-free home is the right environment for her. She currently lives separated from the cats by a baby gate and will calmly observe them from behind it, but we do not believe she should be placed in a home where she has access to cats. This is one of the reasons we urgently need to find her the right foster or adopter. How is Beauty with people? Beauty is a GSD, and she has the natural protective instincts that come with the breed. When meeting strangers, she can be cautious and may bark once or twice when someone enters the home. She responds when told to stop and will allow people to touch her, but she is definitely more comfortable with people she knows and trusts. New people should meet Beauty slowly and respectfully, allowing her time to assess the situation and feel comfortable. This is understandable behavior, given her history of surviving on the streets. She spent months in survival mode, and she deserves people who will recognize that building trust is a process. Beauty’s story is long, but it is important because it explains so much about who she is today. In August 2025, Beauty was purchased at 10 months old by a young couple who are both legally blind. Because she came from a backyard breeder, she was intact, had no microchip, and was not vaccinated. Her owners intended to train her as a service dog and had registered her through a service-dog organization. They began training her, and she clearly retained some of what she learned. In January 2026, the male owner self-deported from the United States to Mexico. The couple was in Tijuana with Beauty when she escaped from them while wearing her harness and collar. Sadly, after some searching, they left her behind. For approximately eight months, she survived on the streets and hills of Tijuana. In May 2026, fellow rescuers in Tijuana contacted us after seeing Beauty posted as lost. Everyone was stunned that she was still alive. She still had Service dog registration card hanging on her harness runnign the streets of Tijuana and the only reason people noticed her but she was on flight mode and unapproachable. We investigated the number on the service-dog tag she was wearing, which eventually led us to her owners. At first, we hoped this would be the happy ending; we had found her owners, and surely they would come get their dog. Unfortunately, that did not happen and the owners ultimately relinquished Beauty to our care. Now Beauty needs a safe home, structure, training, patience, love, and someone who won’t give up on her. She was owned for 5 months, survived the crazy streets of Mexico for 8 months and now 2 weeks back in a home environment and its a miracle she retained much of her training. Such a sweet soul.  We know we can’t keep Beauty long-term because of her incompatibility with cats, so we urgently need to secure a foster or adopter by the end of September.
