Description

Details about Po from his foster:He was very broken in body, but not in spirit. The first day we brought him home, I think he was very nervous about what was going on and spent most of the day standing in the corner of the laundry room where I had him isolated. He was willing to trust again, however. I went in and sat with him and he leaned the top of his head into my chest, gave me paw, nuzzled under my arm for affection, and gave downward and upward dog.Obviously, after being so starved, he is VERY food/treat motivated - will do anything for food. Surprisingly, he shows NO food aggression or other resource guarding. I am able to take things away from him, pet him while he is eating, hold down the lick mat that wasn't sticking to the floor while he was eating frozen Greek yogurt, etc. Once healthy, he worked right in with my two dogs (large M Rottweiler and medium F Black Mouth Cur). We did some tandem walks and were able to get them together very quickly. In the house and yard they all behave and play well together. Even when one boy takes a preferred toy from the other, it typically only results in a woofing of general protest. One toy (an obnoxiously loud squeaky chicken) did cause a bit of an escalation, but only to the point Po guarded it with his head and bared his teeth a bit. There was not anything further, and squeak chicken has been placed out of reach. He loves toys, especially balls, and will play endlessly. We are working on giving the ball back to be thrown, but we're still not quite past the, `No take, only throw` phase. Again, no resource guardingHe is about 95% potty trained. He has never urinated in the house (we go out every 4-5 hours), but has had 3 occasions where he pooped inside. He is typically a once-a-day, in-the-morning pooper. The few times he had a second poop in a day between the hours we were scheduled to go out were the accidents. We are working on learning to ring the back door bells to signal having to go between regular potty breaks. He is excellent on the leash. He has shown interest in and started to walk toward other dogs without aggression or barking and is easily redirected. Unfortunately, due to being sick we haven't walked in the past two weeks but will be restarting again this week.Lastly, he HATES going into the car. He will literally flatten to the floor to prevent being picked up (we have high vehicles - it may be different if it is a lower vehicle he can simply get himself into). But once he is in the car, he sits very nicely and is calm and patient.
