Description

LEXI was transferred to MOGS after being found on the property of a local business, so a stray hold and owner search could be conducted, and to get her the immediate medical help that she needed. At the time of transfer, Lexi was underweight, covered in fleas, missing large amounts of fur, was weak in the back legs from malnutrition, had double ear infections, and was covered in sores and a body-wide skin infection Temperament/Behavior Lexi is a sweet Shepherd who is discovering what it means to be a beloved family member after being found abandoned as a stray. She appears to have spent much of her previous life as an outside-only dog, so she is learning the routines, comforts, and joys of indoor family life. She is a quiet girl with very little barking and has not demonstrated separation anxiety in her foster home. Lexi goes willingly into her kennel and is comfortable using it during the day for quiet, uninterrupted rest time. She is currently recovering from her recent spay and skin tag removal procedures and has had no complications. As she continues to heal and settle into her new routine, more of her personality is emerging every day. Training Lexi is still learning the basics and would benefit from a patient family who will continue building her confidence and skills. She needs additional work with leash walking and is continuing to learn basic commands such as sit, down, and come. She is eager to experience life with her people, and consistent routines, positive reinforcement, and plenty of encouragement will help her continue to blossom. People Lexi can be a little cautious around men and has shown some cowering behavior, so she will benefit from gentle, positive interactions that allow her to build trust at her own pace. She is good with children and has done well at MOGS meet-and-greets, where she has enjoyed attention, pets, and interaction with people. She also interacts well with other Shepherds who are looking for their forever homes. Lexi is happiest when she can be near her people and will happily follow you throughout the house—a trait that is very typical of this loyal and people-oriented breed. Medical Lexi is up-to-date on vaccines, has a current Rabies tag, is microchipped, and has been spayed. Other than recovering from her recent spay and skin tag removal incisions, Lexi has no known medical issues at this time. Her recovery has been uncomplicated. Fun Facts Lexi is learning what family life is all about—and she is loving it! She is discovering the comfort of regular routines, positive attention, and having people she can count on. One of Lexi's favorite things is carrying a “stuffy” around. She is especially proud to share it with you, too! Her personality is becoming more evident every day as she gains confidence and learns that she is safe. Whether she's following her people from room to room, enjoying some well-earned pets, or proudly carrying her favorite stuffy, Lexi is showing us what a wonderful companion she can become. She may be a girl who is just beginning her journey, but with patience, consistency, and love, Lexi is ready to discover just how wonderful being part of a family can be. If you're looking for a mature, affectionate German Shepherd who will follow you everywhere and love you forever,LEXI may be your ideal family member! LEXI'S ADOPTION FEE:   $350 This fee covers only part of what we spend to vet, board and rehab the dogs we save. On average we spend over $450 on each dog. We made a decision to keep our adoption fee at the 2005 level even though vet prices have doubled and tripled since then. We are constantly fundraising to cover the deficit. At minimum, your adoption fee includes the dog's spay/neuter, heartworm test, heartworm treatment if needed, rabies shot, distemper/parvo shot, bordatella shot, deworming, monthly heartworm and flea preventives, and microchip. In many cases it also includes surgery and various types of vet treatment for standard issues such as hot spots, ear infections and so on.INTERESTED IN ADOPTING LEXI?Complete an Adoption Application Now!
