Description

BONNIE NEEDS A FOREVER HOME!!!!   Name: Bonnie       Best Guess for Breed:  Australian shepherd mix, maybe with some other type of shepherd Best Guess for Age:  11 months as of October 2026         SEX:  Female   Approximate Weight: 41 lbs as of 8/2/26 - is still growing!   Gets Along With:  Other dogs, cats, and kids! Has lived with cats and kids in South Carolina.   Currently Living at:  DC area foster home   Bonnie is Looking For:  Her forever home! Shelter staff say Bonnie has so much awesome young-dog energy and she's eager to get her own humans to burn it all off with - long sniffy walks, lots of romps, lots of adventures - yes, please! Mental and physical enrichment like advanced agility training would be terrific too!  Most of all, though, she wants to know she's safe and loved. In exchange she promises all the adoring gazes and happy tail wags and crazy expressions of love she's storing up, and loyal companionship for all her days. What do you say? Is Bonnie the active companion you see by your side on all your fun excursions? What My Foster Says About Me:  Bonnie is a bright, curious, affectionate dog who is ready to discover the world with her person! She has an incredible amount of potential and would thrive with an active adopter who wants a dog to adventure, learn, and have fun with.   Bonnie approaches new experiences with an open mind and a wonderful sense of curiosity. On a recent 1.5-hour adventure through busy H Street and Capitol Hill, she encountered people, children, rollerblades, strollers, bikes, motorcycles, Halloween decorations, and other dogs. Her response was essentially, “What’s that? Let’s investigate!” She handled the busy city environment beautifully, including calmly moving aside to watch a motorcycle pass and meeting other dogs appropriately on leash.   She is smart, eager to please, and a quick learner. Bonnie picked up “sit” and a cute head tilt within minutes, and during her walk she regularly checked in with her handler and responded well to guidance. She often works happily without treats simply because she enjoys interacting with her person. She is currently working on polite greetings and coming when called, and she is already showing great progress with jumping.   Bonnie has energy to spare and will do best with people who enjoy giving their dog plenty of physical and mental outlets. She would be an especially great match for someone interested in hiking, long walks, dog sports, training, or other adventures. When she gets the exercise, enrichment, and social opportunities she needs, she has shown that she can settle in and focus beautifully. She enjoys playing with other dogs and is doing well in boarding, where staff describe her as having good energy and playing nicely with her canine friends.   Like any dog, Bonnie has a few things she is still working through. She can pull when she gets excited, and she may occasionally get overwhelmed if she is under-exercised or under-stimulated for too long. She has also shown some nervousness around enclosed spaces and may have had more crate time than she would have liked in the past. Her caregivers are working on building positive associations with those spaces, and she does best when given patience, choice, and positive reinforcement.   What makes Bonnie especially exciting is how much she wants to engage with her person. She is sensitive, intelligent, enthusiastic, and eager to learn. Give her something to do, somewhere to go, and a person willing to explore alongside her, and Bonnie is likely to be an incredible companion.   Bonnie's ideal home is with an active person or family who wants to include their dog in life's adventures and continue building her confidence and skills. If you're looking for a smart, fun-loving dog with tons of potential, Bonnie might be your girl!   Lucky Dog cannot guarantee any dog is housebroken.  All of our dogs are working on their crate training.  TO ADOPT: The adoption fee for this dog is $460, which includes the cost of routine vetting, including vaccinations and spay/neuter.
