Description

Meet Ruby! This gem of a kitty has been in the Shelter’s care for a little over 5 months waiting for an adopter to call her own. At 5 years old, Ruby is a good mix of independent and affectionate. She enjoys interaction with staff and volunteers but is also just as happy to take a nap on her cat tree or soft bed. The way to her heart is Churu snacks, playing with wand toys and being brushed. Volunteers call her: “a lover!” “sweetheart” and “purr machine”. Due to a medical condition involving her eyes (which has been managed at the Shelter), Ruby should be indoors only in the next home. Adopters can chat with our clinic staff about what her medical needs entail. Although she is a little round, Ruby climbs her cat tree and jumps on her cat-furniture in her Shelter “suite” with ease. Getting more steps in her day to day and decreasing the amount of snacks will help her to be healthier in the long term. (Don’t tell Ruby though – we don’t think she approves of less snacks!)Ruby’s adoption fee is sponsored by the Santa Cruz County Animal Shelter Foundation's Leave No One Behind fund - a fund that draws adopter's eyes towards animals that have been waiting a little bit longer than average for the right adopters to come along and bring them home. Please note: Our Santa Cruz location’s Shelter hours are 11-6pm, 7 days a week! Although clients can walk through and see any animals in their kennels during open hours, we end “meet and greets” (aka meeting an animal out of the kennel) at 4:30pm every day. If you’d like to meet an animal out of the kennel, please arrive before 4:00pm to allow for time to discuss individual animals and meet them.
