Description

Meet Mason, the male Belgian Malinois. Mason arrived to the Shelter as a stray so we don’t have information about his life before the Shelter. A good Samaritan called stating that there was a stray dog confined to their yard. Our animal control staff went out to the yard and saw Mason scaling a fence and coming into her direction. Safely at the Shelter, Mason has been social and easy going. Staff are managing his wanderlust by having him on leash when out of his kennel. As a Malinois, he is an athletic, agile dog who can easily scale fences. Adopters should not plan to leave Mason unattended outdoors to prevent him from going and finding fun elsewhere. Harnessing his power for good such as engaging in dog sports like agility will help to channel Mason’s energy into an activity. Mason has met a variety of dogs (different sexes and sizes) at the Shelter and has been interested in playing. A resident dog in the home may be a fit after a meet ‘n greet at the Shelter. We do not have history of Mason in a home with felines or children. Mason would make a great companion for an active adopter. Could it be you?Mason is available for pre-adoption. Come meet him, fall in love and take him home after his neuter surgery. The Santa Cruz County Animal Shelter Foundation is now offering “Pawsitivity Bucks” with every dog adoption. This $200 training voucher is a way for newly adopted canines and their guardians to connect with local positive reinforcement based behavior consultants and get their relationship started off on the right paw! Please note: Our Santa Cruz location’s Shelter hours are 11-6pm, 7 days a week! Although clients can walk through and see any animals in their kennels during open hours, we end “meet and greets” (aka meeting an animal out of the kennel) at 4:30pm every day. If you’d like to meet an animal out of the kennel, please arrive before 4:00pm to allow for time to discuss individual animals and meet them.
