Meet Bryar, a young Malinois/GSD mix who has already experienced far more than any dog should.Bryar came to MAD as part of a cruelty confiscation case after he and his siblings were reportedly left locked in a closet for days in their own excrement. Despite that beginning, the dog who emerged from that situation is remarkably social, people-oriented and eager for connection.During his evaluation, Bryar sought out attention and affection, engaged well with people and allowed extensive handling. He already knows sit, down and stay, and appears to have had some basic training in his past. He has no bite history and no significant behavioral concerns were identified during his evaluation.Bryar has also done well in the shelter's testing, including food-aggression testing and an introduction with a female dog. As with any new dog, appropriate introductions to resident dogs will be important.Right now, Bryar's biggest need is medical. While in the shelter, he severely injured his back paw, chewing it to the point that he removed his toenails. MAD stepped in knowing he would need veterinary care and time to heal.What we know so far is that underneath everything Bryar has been through is a young, affectionate Malinois who deserves the opportunity to find out what life is supposed to be like.He has some basics already. Our mailing address is in Michigan, however, our dogs are in private foster homes across the continental US. The state location of each dog is posted with the name of the pet in the title description. We do not disclose exact location of the dogs for the safety of our foster homes and the dogs. If you are located within 4 hours of the pet, please be prepared to pick up the pet.
