Description
Matador is a three year old neutered male cat, up to date on vaccinations. Here’s what his foster volunteers say about him after only a week in foster care: How would you describe the cat's general personality? Matador is a mini-panther with the heart of a chill, old Labrador. He loves pets and attention and responds with lots of head butts and purrs. He comes out to greet me every time I go into his room. He also is fairly content to just hang out and chill if I’m busy or distracted. I think he might be a Bombay breed - he matches almost all the characteristics the internet says they have (panther like face, black whiskers, black nose and paw pads (even black claws!), silky coat, muscular build and friendly personality). His eyes are more golden green than golden orange. Does the cat enjoy being pet? Definitely yes If yes, on what parts of its body does the cat like to be pet? The head, the back, even the tail Are there any parts of its body that the cat does NOT like being touched? I haven’t tried to touch his stomach Does the cat come on your lap? He seems like he wants to but we haven’t gotten there yet. Does the cat like to be held? Again, not yet, but he has become more tolerant of being picked up as he gets to know us Does the cat sleep in your bed? He hasn’t yet had a chance. He actually seems to prefer sleeping on the floor to any of the 5 beds I made available to him Does the cat seek your attention? Yes, consistently but he will stop after a bit if I don’t pay him attention Does the cat like to play? Yes What are the cat's favorite games and toys? Seems to like wand toys How vocal is the cat? Not particularly. He sometimes meows at our other cats and if we have the door closed to his room while he can hear us outside What kinds of sounds does the cat make? Fairly standard, soft to medium volume meows, very quiet purr Does the cat scratch a scratcher? A little bit, but it doesn’t really seem to be his thing. He hasn’t been scratching furniture or anything either though Does the cat always use the litter box? Yup! What food and frequency is the cat currently eating? Free eating dry food and getting wet food once to twice a day Is the cat picky about food? Has happily eaten every wet food or kibble I’ve given him, although interestingly he hasn’t really gone for treats much. What is the cat's favorite treat? Still TBD What medication is the cat on, and how is it administered? None Does the cat ever swat (claws in) at you? If so, under what circumstances? I don’t think he ever has Has the cat ever scratched (claws out) you? Definitely not Does the cat ever nip (teeth without breaking skin) you? His “stop” signal if he is overstimulated is to very gently place his teeth on your hand. I don’t know if I can even call it a nip because there’s no pressure behind it at all Has the cat ever bitten you (breaking skin)? No To the best of your knowledge, how does the cat react to new people? Social? Fearful? He was a bit fearful of us the first day or so, not sure how he’ll react to strangers once he’s comfortable in the space but I suspect friendly. He likes people! If you have observed the cat with other animals, please describe how they get on? We’re doing slow introductions with our other cats and after 1 week everyone is peacefully coexisting with a (easily jumped) screen grate. He and my cats meow at each other, in a way that doesn’t sound aggressive. I’m anticipating he’ll me fully integrated soon and that he likes other animals. Does that cat have any cute/quirky traits that aren’t covered by the previous questions? He does biscuits in any position (including standing which looks like a cute little dance) In your opinion, what is the best thing about the cat? Why should an adopter choose THIS cat to adopt? He will give you unconditional love and companionship. I just know he is going to be someone’s best friend, and/or an integral part of a family. He would be a great cat for a first time cat parent! What are the cat's challenges and how have you found to best manage them? We have not encountered any!
