BEHAVIORAL CONTEXT & HISTORY FOR ECLIPSETo the St. Charles County Pet Adoption Center Evaluation Team,I am writing to provide important background context for Eclipse, who is currently in your care on a bite hold until September 4th. I want to share both his wonderful positive traits and his specific triggers so your team can safely evaluate him and find the right adoptive home where he can succeed.Eclipse came into my life after he was dumped near a park and showed up at my house. I took him to the vet to be looked over, and he was recently neutered. When he is in a calm environment, Eclipse is an absolute joy. He is the most cuddly, affectionate lap cat you could ask for. He loves car rides and is incredibly smart—he even learned how to sit on command.Unfortunately, at the time of the incident, he was dealing with the sudden rush of post-surgery hormonal changes, cage confinement, and the intense stress of trying to introduce him to my resident cat, Zeppelin. This combination of factors entirely overwhelmed him, leading to high anxiety and resource guarding, which resulted in a bite. Because of this, I made the difficult decision that he is not a safe fit for a multi-cat household, as my primary responsibility must be the safety of my resident pet.To help your team build his adoption profile and place him in the right environment, here are the specific triggers and behaviors I observed:•Food Aggression: Eclipse shows strong resource guarding around food, likely stemming from his time survival-hunting after being dumped. He needs to be fed in a quiet, private area where he does not feel threatened by humans or other animals.•Best as an Only Pet: He did not tolerate the presence of my resident cat well. He will likely thrive best as an only pet where he has all the attention to himself and doesn't feel territorial pressure.•Recent Neuter: Because he was neutered very recently, his testosterone levels are still dropping. His territorial instincts should naturally decrease over the next few weeks.Eclipse is a deeply loving, intelligent cat who simply became overwhelmed by too many major life changes at once. In a quiet, single-pet home with an owner who can give him a predictable routine, he will make an incredibly loyal and affectionate companion.
