* This dog will be at the Pet Food Express Pet Fair - San Jose North on Saturday, September 12th and Sunday, September 13th from 10AM–3PM both days (unless adopted prior to the event).  5148 Stevens Creek Blvd, San Jose All DPS Rescue dogs are spayed/neutered, vaccinated, dewormed, flea/tick treated, and microchipped prior to adoption.   Adoption fee: $750 Meet lovely little Lemonade   Lemonade is a petite 3 year old Maltipoo type who was rescued from a shelter, where the world had become a very frightening place. With time, patience, and the chance to settle in at her own pace, this lovely little lady has begun showing everyone just how sweet life with Lemonade can be.   Although Lemonade has the fluffy appearance of a Maltipoo, she does shed some and may not be suitable for people with dog allergies.   A Typical Day   Lemonade wakes up with her foster family, usually around 7:00 or 7:30 a.m., and heads outside to potty before breakfast. She isn’t especially food motivated and sometimes prefers to finish her meal later in the day.   After breakfast, Lemonade enjoys a neighborhood walk. She walks beautifully on leash without pulling and is happy to accompany you for as long as you would like. Despite enjoying her outings, she is a lounger at heart. At home, she is equally content curling up on the couch while you watch television or resting beside your desk while you work.   Lemonade eats dinner around 5:30 or 6:00 p.m., takes another walk, and spends the evening relaxing with her people. After one final potty trip, she sleeps quietly in her crate through the night.   She is also comfortable being left home alone during the day and does not need to be crated. She is fully housetrained and has had no accidents in her foster home.   A Sweetheart in the Making   When Lemonade first arrived, she was deeply frightened. She would run away and become defensive if she felt cornered, so her foster gave her space, allowed her to explore on her own, and waited for Lemonade to initiate contact.   On her second day, Lemonade approached her foster while she was watching television, jumped onto the couch, and curled up in the corner. She initially flinched when gently touched, but within a few days she began relaxing and discovering how wonderful affection could be.   Now Lemonade loves head and body scratches, climbs into her foster’s lap, and nudges with both front paws when the petting stops before she is ready. She clearly wants a loving connection with people—she simply needs to build that relationship on her own timeline. Once she trusts someone, she bonds deeply while still remaining independent enough to settle comfortably on her own.   Lemonade is intelligent, attentive, and responsive to guidance. She is also an exceptionally quiet and well-mannered houseguest who almost never barks and has not shown any troublesome chewing or digging behaviors.   Dogs, Cats, and Children   Lemonade has done well with the small resident dog in her foster home. Having a calm canine companion appeared to help her decompress, as she could watch him interact safely with the family and learn from his example.   She has not lived with cats, although she shows little interest in outdoor cats or squirrels during walks. A carefully managed introduction to a calm, dog-savvy cat may be possible.  Because Lemonade may become defensive or nip if she feels frightened or cornered, she is looking for an adult-only home or a home with children who are teens and up. Her adopter will need to recognize her signals, respect her boundaries, and prevent unfamiliar people from reaching for her before she is comfortable.   The Perfect Recipe   Lemonade’s ideal adopter is a patient, dog-savvy individual or couple with experience helping fearful dogs adjust to new people and surroundings. She does not need constant attention and can accompany her person to a quiet workplace or remain home alone without difficulty. When she visited her foster’s office, she happily rested on a dog bed beside the desk as long as others respected her space.   Lemonade is still learning that unfamiliar people can be safe. She currently feels more comfortable with her foster mom than with her foster dad, although she has progressed from avoiding him to accepting treats from him. With continued patience and positive experiences, her confidence should keep growing.   For someone willing to let trust develop rather than rushing it, Lemonade will be a smart, devoted, affectionate companion—and once she starts requesting scratches with those two tiny paws, she is very difficult to resist.
