Meet Maeve At just 2.5 years old, Maeve has already been through more than any dog should have to endure. Originally rescued from an illegal Amish breeding facility, Maeve was taken to the ARL, where she received basic vaccines and care. Since then, she has spent much of her young life being bounced from one home to another. Despite everything she has experienced, Maeve still wants nothing more than to find her person and finally have the safe, loving home she deserves. Maeve is an incredibly special girl who is wonderful with humans and eager to bond with her people. Once she trusts you, she wants to be close, loved, and included. She is an absolute cuddle bug who will happily curl up next to you all night long. She also loves car rides and will often sleep for much of the trip. Maeve is a wonderful house companion, sleeping peacefully from around 9–10 PM until 8 AM, and she enjoys being outside, especially walking on leash and relaxing in the grass. She already knows several basic commands, including sit, lay down, shake, stay, wait, and come here/here. She is also very polite on leash and genuinely enjoys her walks and time outdoors. She has so much love to give, and we truly believe the right person is going to become her whole world. Because of Maeve's past, she does have some very real trauma that her future family will need to understand. While at the breeding facility, she was involved in a fight with her kennel mate, leaving scars on her legs, face, and ears. This experience also resulted in significant kennel trauma. Maeve will attempt to chew or eat her way out of a kennel, so a traditional kennel may not be an appropriate management tool for her. She will need a family willing to work with her history rather than expecting her to simply "get over it." Maeve can also struggle with other animals and needs a home that understands her boundaries and gives her plenty of time to decompress. Maeve is a hard NO on cats. When it comes to dogs, she may be able to live with a confident, dog-savvy companion who understands canine communication, respects her space, and won't rush her into friendship. Any introductions will need to be thoughtful and allow Maeve to build trust at her own pace. We also do not currently know how Maeve feels about children, so a home without children may be the best fit unless and until her comfort level around them can be properly evaluated. After everything Maeve has been through, she deserves the chance to finally put down her roots and simply be someone's beloved girl. She has already survived so much. Now, she deserves to know what it feels like to be safe, cherished, and home. Could you be the safe place she's been waiting for?
