* This dog will be at the Palo Alto Pet Food Express on Saturday, September 5th from 12–3 PM (unless adopted prior to the event). All DPS Rescue dogs are spayed/neutered, vaccinated, dewormed, flea/tick treated, and microchipped prior to adoption. At 4 years old and only 35 pounds, Blueberry is the perfect size for someone looking for a sturdy little adventure buddy without bringing home a giant dog. And while his Cattle Dog heritage might have you expecting a nonstop ball of energy, Blueberry would like to respectfully remind everyone that he is actually quite the professional lounger.  Blueberry starts his days with a nice walk and enjoys another walk in the evening after dinner. His walks are generally around a half mile to a mile, which seems to be just the right amount of exercise for him. He enjoys getting out and exploring, but once he’s home, he’s perfectly happy to settle down and relax. He may have some playful bursts when invited to play, but most of the day, he’s content hanging out nearby and enjoying the good life. One of the things his foster absolutely loves about Blueberry is how well behaved and affectionate he is. From the moment he arrived, he was friendly and eager to please. Blueberry is a boy who believes praise and treats are excellent forms of currency and he is more than willing to work for them! He knows his “sit” command very well and has already learned that keeping all four paws on the floor is the best way to ask for attention. He can be a cuddler when he’s in the mood, but he’s also perfectly happy simply lying near his person. He doesn’t need to be attached to you every second of the day to be happy. He just enjoys being part of the family. And if you’re wondering what Blueberry does when nobody is home, apparently, he has mastered the art of doing absolutely nothing. His foster has left him alone for up to six hours while at work, and Blueberry handles it wonderfully. He typically spends his alone time lounging or sleeping and has shown no signs of separation anxiety or destructive behavior. On walks, Blueberry likes to be the one leading the expedition, but he doesn’t pull particularly hard. He’s curious about other dogs and may watch them closely, but when they get closer, he tends to be reserved rather than overly playful. Importantly, his foster has not seen aggression toward other dogs. Blueberry is also friendly with people and has been good around children and infants in the home. At home, he has shown himself to be an exceptionally easy dog. His foster reports no chewing, digging, nuisance barking, or destructive behavior. In fact, Blueberry is practically a self-appointed member of the Never Barks Club. He has only barked a handful of times and one of those times was particularly funny: while out on a walk, Blueberry spotted the mail truck and apparently decided that this was an important enough occasion to finally use his voice.  Blueberry is house trained and has been doing very well with his routine. He isn’t particularly familiar with being crated, although he tolerates being placed in a crate for transportation. His foster has created a comfortable “home base” for him using baby gates, and Blueberry has been perfectly content relaxing there.  Blueberry is the kind of dog who makes things feel easy. He enjoys his walks, loves attention, appreciates a good reward, and then is perfectly happy to curl up and relax. He’s affectionate without being overwhelming, playful without being constantly on the go, and wonderfully well-mannered in the home. He has already shown his foster that he can settle in, be left alone, follow a routine, and simply enjoy being someone’s companion. Now he’s ready for the part he’s been waiting for. If you’re looking for a loyal, sweet, medium-sized companion who would love to join you for a morning walk and then happily spend the afternoon lounging nearby, Blueberry may just be your perfect match.
