* This dog will be at the Palo Alto Pet Food Express on Saturday, September 5th from 12–3 PM (unless adopted prior to the event). All DPS Rescue dogs are spayed/neutered, vaccinated, dewormed, flea/tick treated, and microchipped prior to adoption.   Adoption fee: $800   Meet the Back to School Puppies   Class is officially in session—and this might be the fluffiest student body we’ve ever seen!   The Back to School puppies are 8 week old Pomeranian mixes born to their tiny but mighty mama, Teacher’s Pet. Very pregnant and waiting in a shelter, Teacher’s Pet went into labor just as DPS was coming to her rescue. She delivered her first couple of puppies at the shelter, welcomed a few more during the car ride, and finished delivering the litter safely in a DPS foster home—all within a matter of hours. Through it all, she remained one remarkably cool customer.   Since their dramatic arrival, these puppies have been raised in a loving foster home alongside three children and two dogs. They are wonderfully social, affectionate, playful, and accustomed to the cheerful chaos of family life. We don’t know anything about their dad, but judging by this group’s impressive fluff, he may have had quite the hairdo!   Daily Schedule   The puppies begin their day around 7 a.m. with a breakfast of puppy kibble softened with a little water. Once they have eaten, they come out of their pen for playtime with the children, resident dogs, and one another. At 8 a.m., they settle into their pen while the family leaves for school and work, and they do well together until the older children return home around 3–4 p.m.   After their afternoon meal, it’s time for another round of puppy play. The rest of the day is a happy rotation of wrestling, exploring, backyard adventures, cuddling, and crashing into puppy naps. Dinner is served around 8–9 p.m., followed by one final—and often very loud—burst of energy before everyone settles down around 10–10:30 p.m.   Staples   Male | Red collar | Light coat | 5 pounds   Staples is an outgoing, playful boy who is always ready to join the fun. One of the largest and tallest puppies in the litter, he has long legs, a hearty appetite, and an exceptionally fluffy coat that frequently sticks up in front of his eyes.   He loves wrestling with his siblings, playing with toys, and settling in with a good chew bone. His energy arrives in hilarious spurts: one minute he is racing around like recess will never end, and the next he is stretched out quietly observing the rest of the class. Staples will be a fun, affectionate companion for a family ready to keep up with both his playful side and his impressive fluff.   Pencil   Male | Orange collar | Light coat | 3 pounds, 13 ounces   Pencil may be the smallest puppy in the litter, but this tiny student is no pushover! He can initially appear a little reserved, but he warms up quickly and has a wonderfully cuddly side.   While his siblings may occasionally try to boss him around, Pencil is perfectly capable of standing up for himself when necessary. Most of the time, however, he is content to mind his own business and chew on his toys while the others create chaos around him. With his sweet face, gentle nature, and one adorable paw tipped with white fur, Pencil is often the first puppy to capture a visitor’s heart.   Ruler   Male | Yellow collar | Dark coat | 4 pounds, 8 ounces   Ruler sets a very high standard for friendliness! Smart, confident, and gentle, he is a happy little guy who loves being close to people and never turns down an opportunity to snuggle.   Ruler is also remarkably comfortable around larger dogs. He happily plays with both his mama and the family’s large resident dog—and Teacher’s Pet seems to think he is the most entertaining puppy in the whole class. With his long, fluffy fur and sunny personality, Ruler is an affectionate, adaptable pup who approaches life as though every day is the best day ever.   Notebook   Female | Green collar | Dark coat | 5 pounds, 2 ounces   Notebook is packed with personality! Curious, energetic, and always on the move, she likes to investigate everything happening around her—and occasionally a few things that probably shouldn’t be happening at all.   She has shorter legs and a slightly shorter coat than most of her siblings, but this sturdy little girl currently holds the title of heaviest puppy in the litter. Notebook can be a mischievous class clown who starts a little sibling drama or finds her way into something unexpected, but she knows exactly how to win everyone back with cuddles and enthusiastic puppy kisses. Life with Notebook promises plenty of entertainment, affection, and stories worth writing down.   Sharpie   Female | Teal collar | Multicolored coat | 4 pounds, 2 ounces   Sharpie is an easygoing, silly girl with a beautifully varied coat and an impressive amount of fluff. She is the most laid-back member of the litter, happily going with the flow while remaining curious enough to explore new places and try new things.   Social and comfortable in a variety of situations, Sharpie enjoys playing with her mama and spending time with people. Her greatest weakness is a good belly rub—scratch the right spot and her back foot starts kicking as though it has a mind of its own! Sharpie’s relaxed nature, confidence, and lovable sense of humor make her an especially charming little companion.   Crayon   Female | Blue collar | Dark coat | 4 pounds, 8 ounces   Crayon has colored outside the lines and grown into one big personality! Originally one of the quieter, gentler puppies, she has become increasingly outgoing, playful, and eager to join every game.   She loves romping with her siblings and playing with the family’s large resident dog. Crayon is often the one who officially starts playtime by pouncing on another puppy or grabbing a tempting leg or tail. Her dark snout and distinctive stripe down her back give her a look all her own. Curious, social, and full of fun, Crayon is ready to fill her future home with laughter.   Eraser   Female | Purple collar | Light coat | 4 pounds, 2 ounces   Eraser—affectionately known as “Little Lavender” before receiving her official name—is the litter’s champion cuddle bug. She absolutely loves people and wants to be beside you, on top of you, or somehow tucked into whatever space you are occupying.   When she isn’t snuggling, Eraser is likely to have a serious case of the zoomies. She loves sprinting in circles and entertaining her foster family with her silly adventures, including burrowing under blankets and then becoming adorably confused about how to escape. Friendly, affectionate, and endlessly funny, she takes after her mama Teacher’s Pet, who has never met a stranger. Eraser has become a particular favorite in her foster home, and saying goodbye to this special girl will not be easy.
