Meet Lucy, a 2-year-old petite basset hound who is happy, healthy, active, adorable and almost suspiciously perfect. Lucy is the kind of dog who is ready to grab her leash, hop in the car and ask, “Where are we going today?” She loves adventures, travels beautifully, walks nicely on a leash, is crate trained AND house trained. She loves other dogs, is fine with cats and can happily play with canine friends for hours! Sounds perfect, right? ...Until somebody brings out the groceries. Lucy has significant food aggression. And while we can joke about Lucy believing every meal is her last supper, this part of her story is something we take very seriously. Lucy is doing extremely well with training and has made wonderful progress. But training isn't a magic wand. Her adopter will need to understand her triggers, continue what she has learned and be committed to consistent management and follow-through. We want Lucy to keep moving forward and become the very best version of herself. Because of the seriousness of her food aggression, we are looking for an adult only home and no other dogs for Lucy, even though she genuinely LOVES other dogs and currently lives with them successfully. We simply feel this is the safest and most responsible long-term placement for her. Lucy's dream adopter? Someone active who doesn't want a dog who sits home waiting for life to happen. Lucy wants to GO. Road trips? She's in. Hiking? Get the leash. Weekend getaway? Pack her bag. Visit friends? She's riding shotgun. Random Tuesday adventure? BEST. DAY. EVER. She would thrive with someone who wants their dog to be a true companion and part of their everyday life. Lucy doesn't need someone who expects perfection. She needs someone who sees an incredible little dog with one very real challenge and says, “We can keep working on this together.” In return, you'll get a funny, active, affectionate, adventure-ready little basset who has already learned so much and has so much more potential. Lucy is looking for a special adopter—not because she's a bad dog, but because she's a really good dog who needs the right person to help her continue succeeding. If you're experienced, committed, active and willing to continue Lucy's training, she may just be your new best adventure buddy. Thank you for your interest in adopting a rescued Basset Hound!  We ask all potential adopters to complete our application and approval process first so we can discuss the dogs that fit your home.  We usually have 25 - 35 dogs available and the ages range from less than year old to ten plus years old.  Once we receive your application you'll be contacted by an adoption representative to complete the application process.  We look forward to speaking with you about our wonderful hounds waiting for forever homes!!!
