Description
Meet Walter, a 7-year-old Miniature Poodle with a big personality, a playful spirit, and a serious talent for making himself heard. Walter is the Goldilocks of energy. He enjoys a good walk, especially when there are plenty of smells to investigate, loves getting the zoomies in the yard, and is just discovering how much fun toys can be. But once the excitement winds down, he's perfectly happy to stretch out on the couch and relax. He's also an excellent little shadow who will follow his people around, while still being perfectly content to settle down on his own. Walter is house-trained, walks nicely on leash, rides well in the car, and does great in his crate. He knows "sit," which is particularly useful because Walter can be a bit of a commentator. He can get growly when people enter the home or when he's feeling protective of his person. He's more likely to react to men, although he may occasionally bark at anyone coming into the house. His foster family has found that "sit" and a treat can usually help him settle down. His future family will need to understand this part of his personality and be willing to help him manage his protective tendencies rather than simply expecting him to stop barking. The good news? Walter is also incredibly sweet, outgoing, and adaptable. He's been friendly with the many strangers who have visited his foster home and has done well with both big and small dogs. He's been wonderful with an 11-year-old neighbor who has become completely smitten with him and comes over every day to hang with him. Walter enjoys being with his people, but he's not demanding about it. And then there's his signature move: when his people come home, Walter gets so excited that he occasionally launches himself into the air like a tiny, curly-haired spring. He also loves sleeping on his back, which is apparently his preferred position for demonstrating just how much he trusts you. Walter is a happy, loyal, curious little guy who has a lot of love to give. He'll do best with adopters who appreciate his big personality, are prepared for some enthusiastic barking, and will help him learn that he doesn't have to be the household security system. In return, they'll get a wonderful companion with a great balance of fun and relaxation. His minimum adoption fee is $300 plus a $15 fee, if 4 months or older, for rabies registration for McLean County residents. He has been neutered, microchipped, vaccinated, heartworm checked, dewormed, and is on flea and heartworm preventatives.
