* This dog will be at the Palo Alto Pet Food Express on Saturday, September 5th from 12–3 PM (unless adopted prior to the event). All DPS Rescue dogs are spayed/neutered, vaccinated, dewormed, flea/tick treated, and microchipped prior to adoption. Adoption fee: $650 Check In, Cuddle Up   Hilton is a 6 year old, 6-pound Chihuahua mix who came to DPS Rescue from a shelter. This tiny lady is looking for five-star accommodations where cuddles are unlimited, blankets are plentiful and room service arrives promptly at 7:30 a.m.   Hilton is carrying a little extra vacation weight and would benefit from losing a pound or two, but she thinks there is simply more of her to love!   The Hilton Morning Experience   Hilton wakes up around 7 a.m. and enjoys breakfast shortly afterward. She likes taking short, leisurely walks through the neighborhood, especially when they provide a good vantage point for watching other dogs go by. She is not interested in breaking any speed records—Hilton prefers to stroll, observe and take in the scenery.   She dislikes having her harness put on, but once it is secured, she walks nicely without pulling and generally passes dogs and people without much fuss. She moves a little slowly, possibly because of her front paw or hips, so gentle outings are more her style.   A Luxury Lounger   Hilton is a professional couch potato whose favorite activity is cuddling. Her preferred destination is someone’s lap—or directly beside it—and she can happily remain there for hours. If you love movie marathons and want a tiny companion tucked against you, Hilton is ready to reserve the best seat in the house.   When a lap is unavailable, she seeks out cozy little hideaways. She loves beds placed beneath tables, covered spaces and the foster home’s cat hut. Having a “roof” over her head or a blanket around her helps her feel safe and secure.   At night, Hilton sleeps in a carrier inside her pen with a blanket draped over it. Depending on her mood, she may sleep inside the carrier or perch on top of it. Apparently, even at the Hilton, guests like to choose their own room.   From Frightened to Full-Body Belly Rubs   Hilton was very frightened when she first arrived in her foster home. She stayed tucked in her bed and needed some time before she felt comfortable eating. By the following day, she had begun to understand that she was safe and loved. Within a few more days, her sweet, devoted personality started to emerge.   Now, whenever her foster comes home, Hilton hurries over, flops onto her back and immediately requests tummy scratches. In fact, she often rolls over as soon as someone approaches to pet her. Belly rubs are not merely appreciated—they are part of the required guest services.   Hilton bonds closely with her person and likes to follow them from room to room. She is deeply loyal, loving and happiest when she knows someone she trusts is nearby.   Dogs, Potty Training and Home Life   Hilton currently lives with another small dog. They coexist peacefully and can relax near one another, although they are not especially interested in becoming best friends. Hilton may growl if the other dog approaches while she is cuddling with her person, so she would appreciate an adopter who will help her understand that affection does not need to be guarded. She may be happiest as an only dog or with a calm canine roommate who respects her space.   Hilton is crate trained and reliably uses potty pads. Her foster is helping her learn to potty outside, and she does well with an established routine.  She has not shown any chewing, digging or other destructive behavior. She may bark when people enter or leave the home, but once she feels comfortable, she can remain quiet and settled for long periods.   Her Preferred Accommodations   Hilton does not enjoy being left alone for extended periods of time. She settles much more easily when she can hear or see someone nearby. Her ideal family will be able to help her gradually build confidence with alone time rather than expecting her to manage long absences immediately. She'd also be a great ride-along companion as you go about your day, and could be an office dog!   She would thrive in a calm home with people who enjoy quiet companionship, cozy blankets and plenty of lap time. A yard would be a bonus, and she would love a family who includes her in their adventures. Hilton travels well in her carrier and is a pleasant little passenger in the car.    Your Loyal Little Travel Companion   Hilton is a quiet, easygoing little dog who asks for very little: a predictable routine, a safe place to burrow and people who will make her feel protected. In return, she will provide unwavering companionship, endless belly-rub requests and enough loyalty to fill the grandest hotel.   Hilton is ready to check out of foster care and into her forever suite.
