Description

Meet Bear, 1.5 year old neutered male terrier. Bear came to the Shelter after his previous home just wasn’t the best fit. Bear can be a little cautious when first meeting people but, with time and patience, warms up. A home with teens or adults only would be best for Bear to ensure everyone in the household is respecting Bear’s sensitive nature. Bear loves to play fetch. He enjoys playing with other dogs and befriended a female Frenchie at the Shelter. A home with another dog may be a fit after a meet and greet at the Shelter. Bear can be reactive to other dogs on walks (barking and growling at them). Adopters should plan on working with Bear to set him up for success through environmental management and positive reinforcement training. Bear has lived with cats and has done well. He is crate trained and house broken. He loves riding in the car and knows “sit” and “down”.The Santa Cruz County Animal Shelter Foundation is now offering “Pawsitivity Bucks” with every dog adoption. This $200 training voucher is a way for newly adopted canines and their guardians to connect with local positive reinforcement based behavior consultants and get their relationship started off on the right paw! Please note: Our Santa Cruz location’s Shelter hours are 11-6pm, 7 days a week. Although clients can walk through and see any animals in their kennels during open hours, we end “meet and greets” (aka meeting an animal out of the kennel) at 4:30pm every day. If you’d like to meet an animal out of the kennel, please arrive before 4:00pm to allow for time to discuss individual animals and meet them.
