Description

Meet Zooey, the cattle dog staffie mix. Zooey has gone through quite a lot in her lifetime and is looking for a patient, stable adopter to help her moving forward. Zooey was fairly nervous when she arrived. She tends to keep her distance and be unsure with new people and things. After acclimating to people, she softens and shows her sweet self. She has experience living with cats, dogs, chickens, goats and horses. Typical to herding breeds, she does try to herd the chickens into their coop but has never hurt them. She sometimes solicits play from the resident cats but listens to them when they hiss and tell her to back off. A home with dog savvy cats and a slow, thoughtful introduction may be a fit in her next home. Zooey has met other dogs and tends to be unsure. Over time, she will likely bond and form relationships with other dogs in the home. Adopters should plan on a slow, thoughtful introduction and management between dogs if Zooey gets adapted to a home with dogs. Zooey has been around children as young as 2 years old. She has experience in a crate and does well. She is house trained but may need some reminders in her new environment. Please note: Our Santa Cruz location’s Shelter hours are 11-6pm, 7 days a week. Although clients can walk through and see any animals in their kennels during open hours, we end “meet and greets” (aka meeting an animal out of the kennel) at 4:30pm every day. If you’d like to meet an animal out of the kennel, please arrive before 4:00pm to allow for time to discuss individual animals and meet them.
