Description

All DPS Rescue dogs are spayed/neutered, vaccinated, dewormed, flea/tick treated, and microchipped prior to adoption. Adoption Fee: $800 Meet Rabbit, a sweet little 2-3 year old Pomeranian who may have started his story as the shyest bunny in the garden, but he’s quickly learning that life can be full of love, soft beds, backyard adventures, and people who always come back.  When Rabbit first arrived, he was incredibly frightened. He wouldn’t eat treats or much food near his foster family, flinched at the slightest movement, and would run away when someone tried to get close. But give this little guy some time and patience, and you’ll see something pretty special happen. Over the past couple of weeks, Rabbit has blossomed! He now comes over on his own to lick his foster’s hand and happily accepts pets and scratches. He loves being near his people and will often follow them from room to room, but he’s not quite ready to be glued to your hip just yet. Think of him as a little shadow who likes to keep a comfortable bunny-sized bubble. And when it’s time to relax? Rabbit is all about it. He’ll curl up on his dog bed in the bedroom or nap nearby while his foster works from home. During TV time, he’ll even snooze right next to his people and on occasion, he has graduated to napping right on his foster’s lap! That’s a BIG deal for a pup who once ran away from the slightest movement. Rabbit has a playful side, too! His favorite place to show it is the backyard, where he loves running happy little laps, sniffing every plant like he’s conducting very important Rabbit business, and occasionally chasing after a tossed plush toy. Watching him zoom around the yard with his nose working overtime is one of his foster’s favorite things because it’s when Rabbit looks the happiest. Inside, Rabbit has moderate energy and is generally a pretty chill little guy. He eats breakfast and dinner at 9am and 7pm, enjoys backyard time after meals, and settles down for naps throughout the day. At night, he sleeps peacefully on his dog bed. He travels in a crate in the car, but otherwise enjoys being near his people. Rabbit is still learning some of the basics. He isn’t fully housetrained yet. He also hasn’t mastered leash walking. The leash was initially very scary to him, but he has made progress and is now comfortable dragging it around himself. He still freezes when someone picks it up to guide him, so his future family will need to patiently show him that walks are fun and safe. When left alone, Rabbit initially has some feelings about it before eventually settling down for a nap. His foster uses an x-pen in the family room when he’s home alone, which gives him a safe, predictable space. He has discovered that slippers are particularly entertaining chew toys when he’s bored, although he happily redirects to something more appropriate, like a tasty turkey tendon. He’ll also join in when the neighbor’s dog starts barking over the fence. What Rabbit needs most is a patient, consistent home that will let him continue coming out of his shell at his own pace. He needs someone who understands that confidence doesn’t happen overnight and who can show him, day by day, that his people always come back, the leash isn’t scary, and the world can be a really wonderful place. Rabbit may not be the Pomeranian who immediately jumps into your arms but that’s what makes his progress so incredibly rewarding. Watching this once terrified little guy choose to approach you, lick your hand, accept affection, and even fall asleep on your lap is something truly special. He’s SUPER gentle. He’s incredibly sweet. And underneath that cautious little exterior is a happy, playful bunny just waiting to discover how wonderful life can be. If you’re looking for a dog whose trust will feel like a gift you earned, Rabbit just might be your guy. Rabbit is looking for a patient, loving home with a consistent routine and plenty of time to let him blossom. His perfect family will understand that his journey is just beginning and be ready to watch him become the confident little Rabbit he was always meant to be.
