Description
* This dog will be at the Palo Alto Pet Food Express on Saturday, August 22nd from 12–3 PM (unless adopted prior to the event). All DPS Rescue dogs are spayed/neutered, vaccinated, dewormed, flea/tick treated, and microchipped prior to adoption. Adoption Fee: $650 Some dogs enter rescue ready to take over the house. Fried Rice took a slightly different approach: she quietly moved in, found the nearest human, and decided, “I’ll just sit here until someone realizes I am adorable.” And, well… it worked. Fried Rice is a beautiful 2 year old Chow weighing 37 pounds, and she may be one of the easiest Chows you will ever meet. She is sweet, gentle, incredibly mellow, and gets along beautifully with both people and dogs. In fact, Fried Rice currently lives with a five-dog pack ranging from a 30-pound three-legged Beagle mix to a 105-pound Treeing Walker Coonhound mix. Apparently, she has decided that size is irrelevant when it comes to friendship. Fried Rice is not the kind of dog who needs to be the center of attention. She is more of a “quietly become your favorite dog without making a big production about it” kind of girl. Her favorite daytime activity is lying next to whoever is working from home, because apparently supervising humans is a full-time job. She doesn't need a desk, a laptop, or a Zoom account. She just needs to be nearby. And lately, Fried Rice has been discovering something wonderful: affection. She is starting to understand that humans are actually pretty great. She will come over asking for scratches, give kisses, and happily soak up attention. You can almost see the lightbulb going on in her head: “Wait… THIS is what all the fuss is about?” She is still learning about being loved, but she is a very enthusiastic student. She is also exceptionally polite. Fried Rice walks beautifully on a leash without pulling, has no reaction to other dogs or wildlife, and generally approaches life with the attitude of someone who has absolutely no interest in unnecessary drama. She has a big yard at her foster home, so walks haven't been a huge part of her routine, but when she does go out, she is gentle and easy to handle. At home, Fried Rice is basically the canine equivalent of ordering takeout and putting on sweatpants. She is mellow, quiet and ridiculously easy to live with. She doesn't chew things, dig up the yard, bark at every noise or demand constant entertainment. Her foster family says it is almost like you don't know she's there. We aren't sure that's entirely true, because once you meet her, you're definitely going to notice her. Fried Rice is also housetrained and has been an absolute superstar in that department. She goes outside when the door opens and will even scratch at the door when she needs to go out. She has had zero accidents in her foster home and sleeps comfortably through the night. She hasn't quite mastered the doggy door yet, but we're confident she will eventually figure out that it's basically a magic portal to the backyard. She isn't a high-energy dog, and she isn't looking for a family who wants to train for a marathon. Fried Rice has a more relaxed lifestyle in mind. She enjoys hanging out, being near her people, getting affection and occasionally participating in important backyard activities. She has even had one documented episode of zoomies. One. We're not saying she will never do it again. We're just saying that if Fried Rice suddenly launches into a full-speed lap around the yard, you should probably take a picture because it may be a historic event. Fried Rice would love a home with another dog, especially one who can show her the ropes and give her a little companionship. She doesn't need another dog who wants to wrestle her into next Tuesday; a friendly, social dog who enjoys having a mellow buddy would be perfect. Most importantly, she needs people who are willing to give her time to discover that soft beds, belly rubs, kisses and being someone's beloved dog are all part of the package. Because that is really what makes Fried Rice so special. You can tell she is discovering things she should have known all along. A soft place to sleep. Someone reaching down just to pet her. A person she can follow around the yard. A home where she doesn't have to wonder what happens next. She is learning that life can be soft. And she is learning it with remarkable grace. Fried Rice doesn't need a complicated life. She needs a loving one. Give this sweet girl a comfortable home, another dog to hang out with, some patience and plenty of affection, and we have a feeling she is going to settle into her new life beautifully. Honestly, we think her adoption menu is pretty simple: One loving family. One comfy bed. One canine roommate. Unlimited affection. And absolutely no fortune cookies required. Fried Rice is ready to be someone's favorite takeout order for the rest of her life.
