Description

Priya is a popular name in India derived from a Sanskrit word meaning `beloved.`  And this young cat certainly is a love.  Priya is very friendly, vocal and seeks attention and purrs with appreciation for every bit she gets.  She arrived at the shelter in mid-August with an eye infection (conjunctivitis) which is improving but still under treatment.  She was also noted to have a wide base stance, moderate ataxia with intention tremors.  These symptoms are common in cats with cerebellar hypoplasia (or CH).  CH is a neurological condition where the cerebellum is smaller than normal affecting coordination, balance, and motor skills.  The condition in kittens is usually thought to be genetic and developed in the fetus.  There is no treatment or cure, and the cat may always be considered a `wobbly` cat.  Many cats can live long, normal lives with the condition and her prognosis is good.  Priya appears to be able to eat, drink, play, use the litter box, and relate well to humans in spite of her condition.  She must be INDOORS ONLY.
