Description

*** Check Out My Video Album Below! *** Meet Yukon, a sweet and gentle Pyr currently in boarding and hoping to find a foster or forever home. Yukon came from a property with 23 other dogs, some of whom would attack him, which is how he got the scars on his face. Understandably, he was quite fearful when he first arrived. When his dog walker first tried to get him from his kennel, Yukon backed away, and the kennel manager had to step in to help, as she doesn't have any trouble with him because he's familiar with her. Since then, Yukon has been making steady progress: his dog walker can now leash him up easily, and every week he seems a little less scared. He is still cautious around new people, but patience is clearly paying off with him. Yukon is leash trained, and is a very slow walker who likes to take his time. He is a polite and tentative boy with low energy who is happy both inside and outdoors. Around other dogs on walks, he's respectful and tolerant, and he could do well either with another dog or as an only dog. He's quieter than other Pyrs - his foster mom has never once heard him bark. What he loves most is simply being petted. What makes Yukon so special is his sweet, quiet, and gentle nature. He'd do best in a home with a single owner or a couple, and could even be a lovely match for a senior looking for a walking companion. He'd thrive with a six-foot fenced yard or as a leash-walk-only dog. More than anything, Yukon is a sweet boy simply looking for love. National Great Pyrenees Rescue (NGPR) has been rescuing and adopting out Great Pyrenees since 2006. Our relationship doesn’t end with adoption, as we continue to support adopters throughout the lifetime of their dog. Our goal is to assess every application on its own merits. Key considerations are: 1) the experience of the applicant with large breed dogs 2) children in the household or regularly visiting the household are ready for a large-breed dog who is a guardian by nature and 3) the sex of other dogs currently residing in the household to avoid same-sex aggression issues. For puppies under six months old, the applicant’s ability to socialize the puppy with older dogs is a priority. We have many Pyrs and Pyr mixes who need homes.
