Bailiff is one of three Trial puppies born on June 10 to a Shih Tzu mom. They are now 9 weeks old. When their original owner realized there were too many dogs in the home, she made the responsible decision to surrender the puppies to DPS Rescue so we could find each of them a wonderful family. Bailiff is now ready to take her place in the court of public opinion—and we suspect everyone will rule in her favor. From Shy Girl to Cuddlebug When Bailiff first arrived in her foster home, she was shy. After just a few days of gentle encouragement, she began finding her courage and showing everyone the affectionate puppy hiding underneath. Bailiff may still be cautious when meeting someone new, but once she decides you are trustworthy, she is completely devoted. She loves staying close to her people, soaking up attention, and cuddling whenever possible. Her tail seems to wag constantly, especially when she is near someone she loves. She is a sweet, gentle little lady who will happily become her person’s number-one fan. A Day in the Life Bailiff wakes around 7:30 a.m. and heads straight outside for a potty break. Her mornings include breakfast and playtime before she settles into her pen for a well-earned nap. The rest of her day follows the ideal puppy schedule: potty break, playtime, snack, nap, repeat. She enjoys playing outside with her sister Verdict and the resident dogs, including two Chihuahua mixes and a Shih Tzu. Bailiff has normal puppy energy but plays more gently than her bold sister. At bedtime, the puppies cuddle up together in their crate and settle in for the night. A Potty-Training Star Bailiff is doing amazingly well with potty training. When her foster says, “Go make a pee pee,” she understands and gets right to business. She has very few accidents and makes a particular effort to keep her x-pen clean. She is also going through the normal gentle teething stage and enjoys occasionally chewing on sticks while she explores outside. Bailiff currently cries when first left in an x-pen or crate. She will need a secure, puppy-safe setup and a family committed to gradually helping her become comfortable spending time alone. Coat and Care Bailiff does not appear to shed. Depending on how her adult coat develops, she may require regular professional grooming to keep it healthy, comfortable, and free of tangles. The Perfect Home Bailiff’s ideal family will understand that confidence grows through patience, kindness, and positive experiences. She needs people who will treat her gently, continue her socialization, and celebrate every brave little step she takes. She could live with another friendly dog and would likely enjoy having a confident canine companion to learn from. Final Ruling Sweet, gentle, playful, and incredibly loving, Bailiff is a truly special girl. Give her a little patience and a lot of kindness, and she will reward you with endless tail wags, devoted companionship, and all the cuddles your lap can hold. The court finds Bailiff guilty of stealing hearts—and showing absolutely no remorse.
