Description
Hi, I’m Chestnut. I’m a big, handsome, muscular, energetic bunny with a personality to match! I’m super friendly, inquisitive, and VERY interested in whatever is happening around me. The second someone comes near my enclosure, I’m usually right at the gate to say hi—although, if I’m being completely honest, I’m probably also hoping you brought FOOD! I am extremely food motivated, and I know exactly when it’s pellet time. When my foster mom comes downstairs for bunny chores, I hop right onto my wooden box because I know that’s where the good stuff happens! Speaking of good stuff, my treat ball is one of my absolute favorite things. Give me a treat ball filled with pellets and I turn into a furry soccer superstar! I race around in circles chasing it, working hard to get every last pellet out as quickly as possible. I’ve discovered that toys are much more exciting when FOOD is involved. Balls with bells? Stacking cups? Eh… I’ll humor you for a little while. But a treat ball? Now THAT gets my attention! I’m also a very curious guy who believes I should know what everyone is doing. I LOVE exploring, and if there’s an opportunity to get outside my enclosure and investigate, I’m going to take it! I’ll find hidey spots, check out new areas, and generally make sure nothing interesting is happening without me. I even like to climb onto my wooden box and survey my kingdom from the top—or hang out inside it when I’m feeling cozy. An IKEA doll bed, however? I’m not impressed. I have standards. I’m also quite the little “helper” when it comes to cleaning. When my foster mom is changing my litter tray, I like to stick my head right inside the bag because, apparently, hay is WAY more interesting when it’s in the bag than when it’s sitting perfectly nicely in my litter box. I may even try to help myself to the bag by giving it a little chew. I’m not a huge chewer in general, though, and I’ve been pretty good about leaving my cardboard and wooden boxes alone. I do like to rattle and chew on my metal gate when I’m feeling particularly determined to get out and explore, so I’ll need a bunny-proofed environment where my adventurous side can be safely entertained. When it comes to people, I’m definitely interested in you! I’ll come running to see what you’re doing, and if you sit on the floor, I may climb right onto you—or at least put my front paws on you to check you out. I’ll accept some pets, especially when I’m feeling comfortable, but I’m not exactly the type of bunny who melts into a puddle while you rub his head. These days I’m more comfortable showing you that I have opinions! I’m looking for someone who understands bunny body language and is comfortable with a confident, sometimes opinionated rabbit. Because of that, I’d do best with an experienced bunny owner rather than a first-time rabbit family or young children. I’m also have an interest in other bunnies. When I see another bunny, I want to know what they’re doing, and I can get pretty energetic and assertive about it. I think I could really enjoy having a bunny companion who is easygoing and docile who can appreciate my big personality without getting overwhelmed by it. Of course, any bunny friendship will need to happen slowly and properly. And if I remain a bachelor, I’d be perfectly happy as your one-and-only bunny, soaking up all the love and attention! I’ve been a good boy with my litter habits, too! I might leave an occasional stray poop, but the rest of the time, I am a pro. I’m also a BIG water drinker—seriously, I drink a TON—so my foster mom keeps two water bowls available for me. I happily munch on my Oxbow Timothy Adult and Timothy/grass mix, and I’m a fan of my veggies, dried papaya treats, and baby carrots. I’ll happily investigate just about any veggie offered to me, although watermelon? No thank you. Somebunny else can have that one! So, what kind of home am I looking for? I’m looking for someone who will appreciate that I’m not a quiet little wallflower. I’m energetic, curious, food-loving, adventurous, clever, and definitely confident in expressing my opinions. I want room to explore, things to investigate, enrichment that keeps my busy brain working, and a person who understands that building trust with a bunny is about respecting their personality. If you’re an experienced rabbit person looking for a larger-than-life bunny with a HUGE personality, I might just be the handsome, bulldog-sized troublemaker you’ve been waiting for! *RRMN requires all children be 10+ years old for first time bunny owners and 8+ for those with previous bunny experience. All applications are reviewed on a case-by-case basis.* If you're interested, please fill out an adoption application at: http://www.rabbitrescueofmn.com. Gender: Male (neutered) Approximate birthdate: 6/18/2023 Approximate weight: 9.2 pounds Adoption fee: $100.00 (+tax) RRMN bunnies are all vetted, spayed/neutered, and vaccinated. All bunnies are fostered in private homes where they are socialized and ready to become indoor companion house pets. RRMN is a non-profit rescue group operated 100% by volunteers, and 100% of donations/adoption fees go to the direct care of our animals. Due to their very special behavioral needs, we do not advocate for our rescue rabbits to serve as Emotional Support Animals (ESAs). We are unable to provide any documentation or certification for an ESA. If you have any questions or are interested in meeting or adopting this bunny, the first step is to complete an adoption application found on our website: http://www.rabbitrescueofmn.com. For the safety of our rescue bunnies, our protocol requires a home-visit before placement. Therefore, we are unable to facilitate adoptions that exceed an hour and a half of travel time from the Twin Cities area.
