Description
Meet Scrappy — A Little Dog With a HUGE Heart! At just 8 pounds and 1½ years old, Scrappy may be tiny, but this little guy has already shown us that he has a whole lot of courage packed into that small body. Scrappy came to us as an owner surrender along with two of his siblings. He had spent his life in a home where he was rarely, if ever, taken outside, wasn’t house trained, and didn’t receive the socialization or attention he needed. The outside world? Well… it was a BIG, scary place. But Scrappy is learning. And he is absolutely amazing us. After a short time in rescue, Scrappy is no longer hiding. He’s even started venturing outside onto the back porch, standing there and taking in all those new smells. He’s using his pee pads, watching what the other dogs do, and following their lead. He’s learning that maybe this big world isn’t so scary after all.And do you know what Scrappy’s favorite thing is? FOOD! Which makes this smart little guy incredibly easy to work with and train. He’s a quick learner and is discovering that good things happen when he tries new things.Scrappy is crate trained, although he would much rather be right beside his person. He follows his foster everywhere, and after a little convincing, he even got to sleep in bed one night. He immediately crawled under the covers, snuggled right up beside his foster mom, and settled in like he had been doing it forever. He loves other dogs and would do best in a home with another small, confident dog who can continue showing him the ropes and helping him build his confidence. He pays little attention to the cats but will sneak in a curious sniff whenever he gets the opportunity. Scrappy does still cry during the day, and we suspect he’s missing his brother and sister terribly. He’s been through a lot of change, and he needs someone who understands that confidence doesn’t happen overnight. What Scrappy needs is simple: A patient person Lots and lots of love Another small dog to learn from A securely fenced yard to safely explore Someone willing to give him the time he deservesIn return, you’ll get a tiny shadow who wants nothing more than to be near his person and a smart little boy who is discovering just how wonderful life can be.Scrappy is brave. Scrappy is smart. Scrappy is learning. And Scrappy is SO loved. If you think you might be the person to help this little guy continue coming out of his shell, please apply.
