Description

Lulu is a sweet 12-pound little girl who has been through a lot of change and is slowly finding her confidence again. She was surrendered by her family after her favorite person had to move into a care facility. Losing her person was incredibly difficult for Lulu, and she became understandably anxious and fearful.Today, Lulu is still a little skittish in new situations, but she's making progress every day. She may be nervous around unfamiliar people or activity and can bark or nip when she feels scared or threatened, so she's looking for a calm, adult-only home with low traffic and someone who understands that trust takes time.Once Lulu feels safe, her favorite place is right in your lap. She's a total cuddlebug who wants nothing more than to be close to her person. She can become a little possessive of the person she feels safest with, so her adopter will need to patiently help her build confidence and learn that she doesn't have to worry about losing the people she loves.Lulu does wonderfully with other dogs and seems to take comfort from having canine friends around. She's still discovering her playful side, but she's starting to show interest in toys and even got curious about a ball after watching other dogs play. We think there's a playful little personality waiting to emerge as she becomes more comfortable. She's crate trained and sleeps peacefully through the night without accidents. She's still working on her potty training, which isn't surprising given how much change she's experienced and the fact that she's learning a new routine.Lulu isn't looking for a busy household or someone who expects her to instantly be confident. She needs a patient adult who will give her time, consistency, and plenty of reassurance. In return, you'll get a deeply loving little companion who simply wants to feel safe enough to love her person again.Meet and greets are by appointment only.  An approved application is required to schedule a meeting. Check out our events page for upcoming open adoption events! We have no additional back story or update for this dog at this time.  When we do, it will be updated here.  This is all the information we have currently. Approved Applicants may make the adoption fee payment by clicking donate above.  Partial adoption fees will not hold a dog. If upon meeting the dog of your choosing at your scheduled pickup time you find that you aren't a good match, your deposit will be fully refunded. Adoption fees include vaccines up until time of adoption, microchip, spay/neuter and 1st 30 days of free pet insurance.  We are not affiliated with MetLife pet insurance. (you have to sign up for the insurance or it will not go into effect).  Adoption fees help cover the medical care of the animals while he or she waits for a new home, as well as food and transportation costs. These fees help to provide care for the other animals in the shelter or rescue group who may have medical bills that are much higher than any possible adoption fee. The money also acts as a donation to help support the organization as a whole, allowing the group to continue its efforts to rescue and rehome pets. The dogs in our care are fostered in Colorado, Texas, and New Mexico.  While all dogs are picked up during our scheduled times, sometimes transport dates change due to unforeseen circumstances.   More questions?  Read our FAQs here: https://4p4l.org/faqs/  Breed labels are a "best guess" by a shelter veterinarian and cannot be guaranteed.
