Description

MEET ASHER — FIVE YEARS OLD, THREE LEGS, A LITTLE WEIRD, AND STILL WAITING FOR SOMEBODY TO CHOOSE HIM Asher was born in 2021, which makes this sweet boy about five years old now. Five years is still young for a cat, but when you look into Asher’s eyes, it feels like this little fellow has already lived a whole lifetime of hurt. He has been with us for a little while now, watching life move around him while other animals come through our doors, have their pictures shared, meet their families, and go home. Meanwhile, Asher has stayed behind, still waiting and hoping that maybe the next person who stops at his kennel will finally be there for him. Some of you may even remember seeing Asher at the veterinarian while Mercury was there. While Mercury was fighting his own battle and had so many people praying for him, little Asher was nearby fighting a painful battle of his own. Asher came to us after being badly injured by a dog. His front leg was hurt so severely that there was no way to save it, and he had to undergo surgery to have it amputated. We truly hoped that would be the end of his suffering. We hoped he could heal, learn how to balance on three legs, and finally begin putting the worst days of his life behind him. Sadly, that was not what happened. Asher kept trying to use what remained of his injured leg, causing the incision to break back open. This poor little boy had to return to the veterinarian and go through a second surgery so the leg could be amputated even higher. He had already lost his leg once, and then he had to wake up and go through that pain all over again. Two surgeries, two recoveries, and two times waking up frightened and confused, with no way for us to explain why his body hurt or why part of him was gone. All we could do was love him, keep him comfortable, and hope that somehow he understood we were trying to save him.And after everything life has done to Asher, he still has love left in his heart. He still allows people close to him, still enjoys gentle affection, and still wants a kind hand to rub his head and remind him that he is not alone. That alone says so much about the kind of little soul he is.Now, we also need to be honest about something. Asher is a little weird. Not bad weird, and not scary weird. He is just the kind of weird that makes you look at him and say, “Well, bless your heart, you sure are something special.” Multiple people who have met Asher have commented that he is a very special cat, and more than one person has laughed and said he is weird in the best possible way. Honestly, they are not wrong. He has his own way of doing things, his own funny expressions, and a personality that is hard to explain until you meet him. He may only have three legs, but he has enough personality for about six cats. Asher is sweet, stubborn, dramatic, curious, funny, and just a little strange. He will make you laugh one minute and break your heart the next. He is not an ordinary cat. He is Asher, and that is exactly why the right person is going to love him so much.Because Asher’s injuries were caused by a dog, he is deeply traumatized by them. Even while badly injured at the veterinarian, he managed to escape from his kennel and tried to go after a dog. When dogs come near him, he may growl, swat, and become extremely upset. He is not being ugly, and he is not being difficult. He is remembering the worst thing that ever happened to him.His body may be healing, but his little heart has not forgotten. For Asher’s safety, comfort, and peace of mind, he must go to a home with absolutely no dogs. Not a calm dog, not a small dog, not an older dog, and not a dog that has always been good with cats. Asher deserves a home where he never has to hear barking from the next room, see a dog come around the corner, or wonder whether he is in danger again. He deserves peace.Asher has shown that he can tolerate kittens. He will gently touch noses with them, which is about the sweetest little thing to see after everything he has been through. Any introduction to another cat would still need to be done slowly and carefully, but he may do well with the right calm feline companion.More than anything, Asher needs a quiet home and somebody with a patient heart. He needs somebody who will give him time to settle in, let him hide when he feels afraid, and be waiting nearby when he is brave enough to come back out. He needs somebody who will laugh at his funny little habits, appreciate his weird moments, and love him for every piece of who he is.He does not need somebody to see a damaged cat, a sad case, or just a three-legged cat. He needs somebody to simply see Asher. A sweet, strange, special five-year-old boy who has survived an attack, two surgeries, and more pain than any little animal should ever have to know.He has already spent enough time hurting, enough time waiting, and enough time watching other animals leave while he stays behind. Asher has fought so hard just to still be here, and we are begging for somebody to make sure all that fighting was not for nothing. Please share his story. Somewhere out there is a quiet, completely dog-free home with a soft bed, a sunny window, and somebody ready to love this funny little three-legged oddball exactly as he is. Asher has spent long enough simply surviving. It is time for this special boy to finally go home. ⚠️ ASHER MUST GO TO A COMPLETELY DOG-FREE HOME.
