* This dog will be at the Palo Alto Pet Food Express on Saturday, August 15th from 12–3 PM (unless adopted prior to the event). All DPS Rescue dogs are spayed/neutered, vaccinated, dewormed, flea/tick treated, and microchipped prior to adoption.   Adoption fee: $700 Locket: A Little Love ready for her happily ever after Meet Locket, a 2-3 year old, 8 pound Chi mix who has spent the past few months proving that being tiny and delicate doesn’t mean you can’t have a HUGE personality. When Locket came to DPS in April, it was immediately clear that something wasn’t quite right with the way she walked. She was diagnosed with bilateral grade 4 luxating patellas and needed surgery to give her the best chance at comfortable mobility. After healing in foster care and being a model patient, this little girl is finally ready for the forever home she’s been waiting for.   And what a little girl she is.   Locket is sweet, gentle, ridiculously cute, and universally adored by every foster who has had the pleasure of caring for her. She’s actually been through five foster homes this summer thanks to everyone’s travel schedules, and somehow she has charmed every single one of them. They say, across the board, that she's a total doll, easy to care for, and welcome at their home any time.  At home, Locket is an absolute princess. She loves her toys so much that she relocates them all over the house — toys in her pen, on the sofa, on her bed, in the bathroom… everywhere. She has adorable bursts of playful energy, enjoys belly rubs, and has recently discovered that cuddling in her person’s arms or curling up on their legs is pretty wonderful, too. And those morning cuddles? Apparently they are the best part of the day.  She is also incredibly easygoing. When her foster is at work, Locket happily settles into her pen for 6–8 hours without making a peep. She doesn’t need to be attached to her person and is perfectly happy relaxing independently. And then there’s her specialty: being portable. Locket has been to stores, restaurants, friends’ houses, errands, a nail salon, a concert in the park, and even a three-hour intake event (where she was surrounded by new dogs of all shapes and sizes) — all while happily hanging out in a sling. She also loves curling up in her stroller and watching the world go by. She can be cautious and timid in unfamiliar environments, but she’s getting braver every day. Locket is wonderful with other dogs, although she’d prefer they respect her personal space rather than bouncing all over her. She’d also be perfectly happy as your one-and-only. She’s working on her leash skills and isn’t exactly begging for marathon walks, but she’s beginning to enjoy getting outside and sniffing the world a little more.  Locket will always have her own unique little way of walking because of her orthopedic history, but she is not in pain and should not need any further care. She’s not destined to run a marathon — but she is very much destined to be an amazing companion. If you’re looking for a tiny dog with a huge heart, a serious toy obsession, a fabulous wiggle butt, and an impressive talent for being adorable literally everywhere she goes, Locket might be your girl. She’s ready to be someone’s princess.
