Description
MEET TRIXIETrixie is a 4 year old, 70 pound sweetheart who is finally learning what it feels like to be loved.Trixie spent most of her life on a farm, living outside with very little human interaction. She was primarily used for breeding and unfortunately never got the chance to experience all the things that make being a dog so wonderful. Because of this, arriving at the shelter has been a very big change for her. Trixie is timid and unsure of new people, but every day she is beginning to realize that human attention can mean gentle hands, kindness, treats, walks, and love. She will need someone who understands that trust isn't built overnight. Trixie needs a patient, compassionate adopter who is willing to let her come out of her shell at her own pace and show her that the world can be a safe and happy place. Because of her past and her timid nature, we are not recommending Trixie for a first time dog owner. She needs someone who will be patient with her, advocate for her, and celebrate all of her little victories along the way.And she is already making progress. Trixie is walking nicely on leash here at the shelter and is slowly becoming more comfortable with the people around her. Once she feels safe, her incredibly sweet personality starts to shine through. We were told Trixie lived around other animals and children running around the farm. However, we were also told that she did not do well with the farm animals, so we would not recommend placing her with livestock or other farm animals. Because her past was so limited in human interaction, we are still learning about her and would want any introductions to be handled thoughtfully.Trixie may not be the dog who runs up to you and immediately asks for belly rubs. She may need you to sit quietly beside her and show her that you're not going anywhere. But imagine the feeling when that scared girl who once hid from the world finally chooses to walk over to you, rests her head against you, and realizes she is finally home.Trixie has spent four years waiting to discover what it means to be someone's beloved companion. She deserves the chance to learn. If you have the patience, compassion, and time to help Trixie become the confident, loving dog we know she can be, she may just be the incredibly special girl you've been waiting for.
