Description

 * This dog will be at the Palo Alto Pet Food Express on Saturday, August 15th from 12–3 PM (unless adopted prior to the event). All DPS Rescue dogs are spayed/neutered, vaccinated, dewormed, flea/tick treated, and microchipped prior to adoption.   Adoption Fee: $800 If there were a prize for most likely to make himself at home before anyone has finished introducing themselves, Roo would already have the trophy. Roo is a handsome little Pomeranian weighing 7.2 pounds and estimated to be about 1–2 years old. He is one of seven Pomeranians who came to us from the same longtime Chow breeder, and because apparently one species of fluffy, opinionated dog wasn't enough, this group arrived with a little extra Pom sparkle. They are all named after characters from Winnie the Pooh, and our Roo is living up to his name by bouncing his way into the hearts of everyone he meets. He is as handsome as they come, with a gorgeous, full Pom coat and the kind of face that makes you stop and say, "Oh my goodness, look at that little guy." Roo had a lot to take in when he first arrived. Everything was new, and he was understandably a little nervous at first. But Roo didn't need much time to figure out that people were pretty wonderful. By his second day, the nervousness was fading and the affection was taking over. Now he is happy to come when he is called, loves attention and has become wonderfully affectionate with his people. Visitors? Roo is apparently a fan. When guests arrived, he was super friendly from the get-go. He may have needed a minute to decide that everything was okay, but once he made that decision, he was ready to participate in the festivities. Roo seems to have discovered that having people around means more opportunities for attention, and he is absolutely on board with that arrangement. He has also learned his new name remarkably quickly. Say "Roo!" and he knows you're talking to him. He has even mastered the doggy door, which is no small accomplishment for a little guy who is still learning all the rules of his new world. Roo is currently living with other dogs and gets along well with them. He eats peacefully alongside the entire canine crew, which is especially impressive because Roo arrived underweight and clearly has some catching up to do. He is a good eater and is happily working on putting some healthy weight on his little frame. No food drama, no guarding, no "THAT'S MY BOWL!" Just Roo, dinner and the general understanding that there will be another meal tomorrow. He has also done wonderfully with his crate. Roo can sleep comfortably in his crate overnight and settles in nicely. His foster family has discovered that he is actually quite good at this whole household-dog thing. He just needs someone to continue showing him how it works. House training is still a work in progress, so his new family will need to be patient and consistent while Roo learns that the great outdoors is where we take care of business. He has had a leash left on him while learning the ropes, and apparently Roo decided that the leash was no big deal. Now that he is accustomed to having it around, he is ready to keep working on his leash skills. And honestly, for a dog who hasn't been in a home for very long, Roo is making an impressive amount of progress. There is something especially endearing about watching a dog like Roo discover all the little things that make being someone's dog so wonderful. A name that means him. A person calling him and waiting for him to come. A soft place to sleep. A doggy door that leads to the outside. Other dogs to hang out with. Visitors who think he's adorable. Meals served every day. And, most importantly, people who are happy to have him there. Roo came to us as part of a group of Pomeranians from a breeder who loved her dogs deeply and was known for producing dogs with wonderful, sound temperaments. We are honored to help these little guys move into the next chapter of their lives, where all that fluff can be put to very important use: being spoiled. Roo is looking for a home that will give him the patience he needs while he finishes learning his house manners, plenty of affection, and a whole lot of love. Another friendly dog would be wonderful, but what Roo really needs is someone who will appreciate this tiny, handsome little guy for exactly who he is. He is sweet. He is affectionate. He is friendly. He is fluffy. He is learning FAST. And he has apparently decided that his new name, his new people and his new life are all pretty fantastic. Roo may only weigh 7.2 pounds, but he has absolutely no plans to let his size limit his personality. After all, big adventures come in very small packages.
