 * This dog will be at the Palo Alto Pet Food Express on Saturday, August 15th from 12–3 PM (unless adopted prior to the event). All DPS Rescue dogs are spayed/neutered, vaccinated, dewormed, flea/tick treated, and microchipped prior to adoption.   Adoption Fee: $800Meet Sadie: Prepare to Fall Completely in Love If you are looking for the dog who wants to be involved in everything, loves everyone, thinks every dog is her new best friend, and has enough puppy personality to keep you laughing all day, meet Sadie. This adorable 8–10 month old, 13-pound Maltipoo is non-shedding, ridiculously cute, incredibly social, and basically convinced that wherever you are is exactly where she should be. Sadie is one of those dogs who makes you wonder how you ever lived without a puppy following you around. She is playful, affectionate, curious, silly, and completely delighted to be part of the action. She has that wonderful combination of puppy energy and an enormous desire to be loved, making her the kind of dog who can turn an ordinary Tuesday into an adventure. The Perfect Puppy Routine Sadie is an early riser. Around 6 a.m., she heads outside with her resident-dog best friend to take care of business and get the day started. From there, the fun begins. She and her canine buddy have plenty of free time to play, explore, and generally entertain themselves. When they finally wear each other out, they curl up together for a well-earned snooze, usually wherever their people happen to be. Sadie has free access to food throughout the day and happily snacks as she needs to. At night, she sleeps with her 12-year-old foster brother, usually settling in sometime between 9 and 10 p.m. When her foster family leaves the house, Sadie goes into her crate and is doing well with that routine. She's also learning to walk on a leash. She's come a long way already, and while she occasionally still gets a little confused about exactly what we're trying to accomplish with this whole "walking in a straight line" thing, she's improving. People? YES PLEASE. Sadie is very people-oriented. She adores her resident dog, but if a human suddenly appears who is willing to provide scratches, snuggles, playtime, or, preferably, all three, Sadie is immediately interested. She loves playing chase, exploring the world with her mouth, and rubbing herself against people like a little cat. And her favorite place? Directly on your chest. Why? Because from there she has the perfect vantage point to monitor your face, receive maximum affection, and perhaps intercept any food you were foolish enough to believe you could eat by yourself. When Sadie first arrived, she was a little shy, but that shyness was mostly a matter of her curiosity being temporarily turned down. Once she realized she was safe, her confidence—and her enthusiasm for absolutely everything—came roaring back. Now there is very little she doesn't want to investigate. Including the frog pond. Yes, Sadie discovered the tiny frog pond in her foster family's backyard and apparently decided that swimming was the next logical puppy skill. She climbed right in, presumably believing the lily pads were sturdy flotation devices. Spoiler alert: they were not. She has apparently survived the disappointment and continues to believe that every new experience deserves a thorough investigation. Other Dogs? Her Favorite Thing. Sadie is fabulous with other dogs. She lives with a medium-sized Labradoodle mix and the two have become best friends. They play together, explore together, nap together, and generally behave like they've been lifelong siblings. Her foster mom is already worried about what the resident dog is going to do when Sadie eventually leaves because these two are quite the pair. We think Sadie would absolutely love having another playful dog in her forever home. She doesn't necessarily need another dog, but having a canine friend who enjoys playing would be a huge bonus for this energetic little girl. Kids? Absolutely. Sadie has lived with both a 6-year-old and a 12-year-old and has been wonderful with both. She's friendly, playful, and eager to be involved in whatever the kids are doing. Because she's still very much a puppy, she may be a little too enthusiastic for a toddler or infant and could potentially jump up on a very small child. That's puppy excitement rather than anything aggressive, but families with very young children will need to be prepared for a bouncy little dog who hasn't yet learned that everyone doesn't necessarily want a 13-pound Maltipoo launching herself into their personal space. She Is All of the Above Is Sadie energetic? Yes. Is she playful? Absolutely. Is she capable of being a couch potato? Also yes. Sadie is all of the above. She can play until she is exhausted and then happily collapse next to you for a nap. She's the kind of dog who will happily participate in whatever you have planned, whether that means playing in the yard, exploring the neighborhood, hanging out with the family, or curling up for some serious belly-rubbing. And speaking of belly rubbing... She has an unbelievably soft belly that practically begs to be rubbed. This is not a request. This is a service Sadie expects to be provided regularly. Still Learning Her House Manners Sadie is still a puppy, which means housetraining is a work in progress. Her foster family does not use potty pads because they want her to learn that outside is where we do our business. She's making progress and will need adopters who understand that a young puppy may still have an occasional accident while she finishes figuring everything out. She is crate trained and does well when her family leaves the house. She is also a serious chewer. Not because she's bored, but because she's a puppy! She loves chew toys and squeaky toys and is particularly obsessed with anything that has crinkly plastic inside. She has already successfully destroyed a tennis ball, so her forever family should be prepared to provide plenty of appropriate things for her to chew. She's also very mouthy and will gently gnaw on hands and feet if given the opportunity. Her foster family is redirecting that behavior onto appropriate teething and chew toys, and she's learning. She hasn't shown any interest in digging in the yard. She will bark when someone comes to the door, but once her resident dog determines that the new person is "friend-shaped," Sadie is happy to agree. Her Perfect Home Sadie's ideal home is one where she will be included in family life. She would be wonderful for a family with kids and would likely love having another playful dog to keep her company. Her adopters should be prepared for puppy energy. She's going to settle down as she gets older, but right now she is a busy little girl with a lot of curiosity, a lot of enthusiasm, and a lot of love to give. She needs a family who will continue working on her leash skills, housetraining, appropriate chewing, and basic puppy manners while also appreciating the fact that this stage is incredibly fun. Why You'll Love Sadie There are dogs who quietly fit into your life. And then there is Sadie. Sadie jumps into your life with both feet. She wants to know what you're doing, where you're going, what you're holding, whether she can play with it, whether she can eat it, and whether there is possibly room for her on top of you. She is affectionate without being needy, playful without being constantly "on," and curious about absolutely everything. She has already proven that she is willing to try new things—even swimming in a frog pond, despite having absolutely no evidence that this was a good idea. She's funny. She's affectionate. She's social. She's adorable. She's a wonderful little dog who is going to make someone very, very happy. And if you are looking for a dog who will happily become your shadow, your playmate, your snuggle buddy, your personal food inspector, and your daily source of entertainment... Sadie may be exactly the dog you've been waiting for.
