Ball pythons can be a great choice for a new snake owner. They are docile and low maintenance, and generally tolerate handling well. Because of their calm and low energy personalities, they don’t require as large of an enclosure as some other species. However, they are skilled escape artists and their tank should have a secure lid that can be latched or weighted down. Ball pythons require a specialized diet, housing, and heat/light source in order to stay healthy and can live over 20 years in captivity.
