* This dog will be at the Palo Alto Pet Food Express on Saturday, August 15th from 12–3 PM (unless adopted prior to the event). All DPS Rescue dogs are spayed/neutered, vaccinated, dewormed, flea/tick treated, and microchipped prior to adoption.   Adoption fee: $800 Saddle Up and Meet Cowboy! Looking for a loyal adventure buddy with a heart as big as the open range? Meet Cowboy, a 7-8 month old, 34 lb English Springer Spaniel puppy who's happiest riding alongside his people. Whether it's a hike, a camping trip, a run around the neighborhood, or a trip to the coffee shop, Cowboy is ready to ride. His favorite seat? Shotgun. Personality Cowboy has a huge heart and an even bigger zest for life. He greets his family with a smile and a tail wag so enthusiastic that his whole backside vibrates. He loves giving kisses, climbing into your lap, and somehow managing to snuggle every inch of himself as close to you as possible.   He wants to be included in everything—not in a needy way, but because he genuinely adores being with his people. Whether you're running errands, heading to the park, or simply relaxing in the backyard, he's happiest when he's part of the fun.   He's incredibly smart, eager to please, and loves to learn. He already knows several tricks and happily performs them for the kids. With consistency and positive training, he's the kind of dog that truly enjoys working with his people.   A Day in Cowboy's Life Cowboy's day starts around 7am when he wakes up with the family. He heads outside to potty, eats breakfast, helps wake up the kids for camp, and happily rides along for drop-off.   Afterward, he enjoys his morning walk before settling into the day's activities. If the family is home, he wants to be wherever they are. If everyone heads out, he relaxes quietly in his kennel with a Kong or chew toy and has access to a dog run for potty breaks.   Afternoons are full of family fun—playing with the kids (ages 8, 12, and 14), chasing balls, swimming in the pool, chewing on toys, or simply hanging out with everyone.   Dinner is served in his kennel while the family eats. In the evening, he enjoys another family walk to the neighborhood park where he gets to sniff, explore, chase a frisbee, and visit the neighborhood dogs.   Bedtime is between 10-11pm, and he sleeps soundly through the night in an oversized wire crate in his foster parents' bedroom.   Exercise & Play Cowboy is definitely a high-energy puppy who loves having a job to do.   His favorite activities include:   Fetch with balls or a frisbee Swimming after soccer balls in the pool Exploring new places Car rides Wrestling stuffed animals Chewing Kongs and durable toys Snuffle mats and puzzle toys Learning new tricks Sniffing every inch of the backyard One of our favorite moments was watching Cowboy proudly carry his frisbee all the way to the park because he already knew exactly what was about to happen.   Walking & Adventures Cowboy loves going for walks and is an excellent walking companion when wearing an Easy Walk front-clip harness with a collar. Without the harness, his excitement gets the better of him and he'll pull.   He's curious about everything and enjoys stopping to sniff along the way. Walkers, bicycles, children, and other dogs all catch his attention, but he watches politely without barking or reacting.   He would love a family that enjoys spending time outdoors. Whether it's hiking a new trail, camping under the stars, throwing a frisbee at the park, or simply grabbing coffee on a Saturday morning, Cowboy is happiest when he's along for the ride.   Dogs, Cats & Kids Cowboy currently lives with:   Two resident cats, whom he respectfully coexists with. Three children (ages 8, 12, and 14), who are some of his favorite playmates. Every evening he meets neighborhood dogs at the park. He's still learning how to interact with them and, for now, usually prefers to lie down and observe rather than jump into the action.   When meeting new people, his excitement is contagious. Every stranger is simply another potential friend.   Home Manners Cowboy is fully house trained and learned where to potty within just a couple of days. He comfortably uses a dog door.   He loves his oversized wire crate (plastic crates are not his favorite!) and happily sleeps there all night. When his exercise needs have been met, he'll also relax quietly in his kennel during the day with a Kong and chew toys.   He isn't much of a barker. He may bark briefly at a vacuum or unfamiliar appliance, but once he's allowed to investigate and sniff it, he quickly realizes it's nothing to worry about.   Like most puppies, he's always looking for something appropriate to chew. Keeping plenty of durable chew toys and enrichment available helps keep his busy mind occupied.   Why We Love Cowboy Cowboy has a way of making every day more fun.   He brings toys when he's ready to play. He's learning hide-and-seek and thinks it's the greatest game ever. He'll proudly carry his own frisbee to the park because he already knows the plan. And when it's time to relax, he'll happily curl up beside you—preferably with his face pressed against yours because being close to his people is his favorite place to be.   He's silky soft, incredibly handsome, endlessly affectionate, and eager to learn. With continued structure, exercise, and mental enrichment, Cowboy is going to grow into an amazing lifelong companion.
