Description

9/24/25. Roux is now up to date on shots, recovered from her spay procedure, on preventatives, and chipped.  She continues to be a happy, affectionate, and energetic girl and has improved significantly in her leash walking skills.  Best fit for an active family/individual. She will be participating in the Tyson’s Corner adoption events. 8/21/22 Roux (aka Ru-Ru) is a 60 lbs., 1 year old (estimated) mixed breed female who came to us from a small rural shelter.  Since she was found as a stray, nothing is known about her except that she is intact and her coloring is sable/brown with a black mask. She knows how to do stairs and she’s almost completely potty trained, which tells me she was someone’s dog before being dumped and becoming a stray.  However, she lacks manners, especially leash manners. The first thing apparent about Roux is that her body type is more Belgian Shepherd than German Shepherd.  She is quite leggy and would rather be playing than doing anything else.  She often runs around with her two four-legged roommates and likes to mock-fight with them like many young dogs do to burn off excess energy. She is quite outgoing and gets along with other dogs and most people.  She is crate trained, treat-motivated, and likes praise and attention.  I believe she would be highly trainable once she settles and becomes mature enough to focus.  Within days of living with me, she started acting territorial about her backyard and her pack (she currently lives with two other dogs, one male, one female).  This is a testament to her ability to adapt to new situations. She also does ok on car rides. Roux has a lot going for her, but will require a special adopter.  One physically fit enough to control her during her walks and capable of giving her the time and love she’ll need to feel like she belongs.  Roux will require formal training, or at least an adopter experienced enough to give her the basics.  Although she doesn’t have a mean bone in her body, Roux should not be around small children without close supervision.  This is because of her tendency to jump and run into people due to an excess of enthusiasm.  Previous VGSR adopters welcome… but keep in mind that Roux is more Malinois than GSD. If you are an approved adopter interested in Roux, please email arivederci@aol.com She is currently being fostered in Arlington 22204. Roux normally participates in the Potomac Yard adoption event in Alexandria and is being fostered in Arlington 22204
