Picture this: You see Honey for the first time. You gasp at the unrelenting cuteness of this dog. Even the manliest of very manly men cannot help but let out a high pitched squeak at her adorableness. The face. The fluff. The fun sized petite stature. It's like a German Shepherd and a stuffed animal had a baby! Aaaaand then you pet her and throw up in your mouth a little. Because under all that fabulous fluff, Honey is a walking skeleton. In 20+ years of fostering, this is the most emaciated dog I've ever had in my care. And even more sadly, it's not because she was found roaming the streets as a stray. Honey is an estimated 2 year old sweetheart of a long haired GSD or GSD mix. She was surrendered to Animal Control after she was found intentionally locked in the bathroom of her home for days with no food or water. She weighed only 28 lbs and was matted with feces and urine. She was veterinarian evaluated at a 1 out of 9 body condition score. Despite all this, Honey remains as sweet as her name. She has shown no signs of food guarding with humans or her foster dog siblings. She crates quietly, takes treats gently, walks well on a leash, already knew Sit and has learned Down and Stay, is friendly and playful with other dogs, and only required one conversation about not being too interested in cats. She is currently being fostered on a farm and has done well with horses, creeks, and 4 wheelers. She seems to especially love male dogs - when she can't be velcroed to me, she can be found glued to my Livestock Guardian Dog. It is important to note that Honey's energy level and exercise requirements will almost certainly increase as her condition improves. Any potential adopters should be aware they will probably wind up with a medium to high energy pup, even though right now she poops out quickly. Also for size comparison in the pics, the shorter coated GSD is 75 lbs and the white LGD is 115 lbs. Honey is going to be a petite girl even after she reaches her ideal weight. Honey seems like she would love to go to a home with a doggy sibling or two. At this time I am not recommending her for any homes with young or especially chaotic children, as she is still decompressing from her abuse and can be a little nervous/shy meeting new people.
