Energy Level: Medium Fence Required: No Dog's Location: Charlotte, NC   About Ashton’s Breed: Our best guess is that Ashton is a Lhasa Apso/Shih Tzu  mixed breed. Lhasa Apso/Shih Tzu mixes are sweet‑tempered, affectionate little companions known for their expressive faces, loyal nature, and soft, plush coats. They blend the Lhasa’s calm, observant personality with the Shih Tzu’s friendly, people‑oriented charm, creating a dog who loves being close, enjoys gentle routines, and thrives on emotional connection. Many are naturally cuddly, intelligent, and sensitive to the tone of their environment, making them wonderful partners for someone who appreciates a thoughtful, loving small breed.   Their ideal home is one that offers patience, consistency, and a calm, reassuring atmosphere. These mixes do best with families who enjoy cozy companionship, positive‑reinforcement training, and predictable daily rhythms. Because they can be sensitive to loud voices or fast movements, they flourish in homes with gentle energy and people who understand their breed’s history as devoted indoor companions. With kindness, structure, and lots of affection, Lhasa Apso/Shih Tzu mixes become deeply loyal, joyful little dogs who bond closely with their humans.   What to Love about Ashton: Ashton’s deep black coat, soulful eyes, tiny white chest patch, and soft grey chin hairs make him absolutely striking — but it’s his personality that wins everyone over! Ashton is incredibly affectionate, loves giving kisses, and rolls over for belly rubs any chance he gets. Sweet talk is his love language. He’s vocal in certain environments and will bark at people or dogs on walks until corrected, but he responds well to “No” and is learning leash manners. He enjoys his crate, knows SIT, BED, and STAY, rides well in the car, and is treat‑motivated with excellent house manners!   Ashton currently lives with five small male dogs and has shown no aggression — he sleeps with several of them every night. He prefers feminine energy and has barked at men before, so a female‑led home would help him feel secure. He hasn’t met kids or cats yet but is open to meet‑and‑greets. Ashton loves solo walks with his foster mom or walking alongside another dog, enjoys stuffy toys and bouncy balls, and has moderate energy. He’s potty trained, crate trained, and can be left loose in the home thanks to his wonderful manners!   Ashton shows signs of past mistreatment and may lower his head with quick movements, so a gentle, patient adopter familiar with his breed will help him continue to blossom. With love, reassurance, and continued training, Ashton will be an incredibly devoted, joyful companion!   Ashton’s Amazing Highlights: 3‑year‑old, 19‑lb Lhasa Apso/Shih Tzu mix with a striking deep‑black coat and soulful eyes Affectionate cuddle bug who loves kisses, belly rubs, and sweet talk Vocal in certain environments but responsive to correction and learning leash manners Crate‑trained and command‑smart — knows SIT, BED, and STAY and goes to “crate” on cue Great with small male dogs — sleeps peacefully with multiple foster siblings Prefers feminine energy and may bark at men; ideal for a female‑led home Potty trained with excellent house manners — can be left loose when you’re away Good with baths and car rides; not a fan of feet trimming Enjoys solo or paired walks and has moderate energy Loves stuffies, bouncy balls, lick mats, and bully sticks — playful but independent   Comprehensive details are provided in the dog's description. to ensure a smooth process, please submit a completed application through our website at: http://crisisdogsnc.org/dog-adoption/.
