Ellie is a sweet spaniel-type mix with the most striking black-and-white coloring and beautiful ear fringe. She came from an outdoor property with many dogs and inadequate care, and she has some significant scarring around her mouth and nose but it does not impair her. She is currently about 50 pounds and should be closer to 40, and she thinks that you should just look the other way if she quietly sneaks in to try stealing a bite of your dinner.In her foster home, Ellie has shown herself to be housetrained and makes a squeaky whine when she needs to go outside. She needs a tempting snack and a lack of pressure to walk into her crate but does phenomenal in it through a full workday. Her lower-shedding coat would benefit from occasional grooming, mostly to trim the long fur on her feet so she does not slip on smooth floors.When people are home, she’s happy to be lounging on the couch or in the yard, and is a calm companion most of the time. There are moments as she’s coming out of her shell when a silly, playful dog comes through. Ellie is not broadly fearful - she’s not afraid of sounds or new places. She just thinks it’s not polite for people she’s just met to reach for her and she’d like to be given a few days to get to know you first and solicit affection on her own terms. She’s a very affectionate dog when given the time she needs, and will paw you for pets. Ellie is currently living with two dogs and a cat and coexists very well with all of them but hasn’t shown any real social interest. Her history with children is unknown, and because she is quite hand shy, she would likely do best in a quieter home with adults or older, dog-savvy kids.Ellie has so much to offer: a calm presence, quiet affection, excellent housemanners (dinner sneaking aside..
