Description
Chico – Yellow Male mix, 1 year old, 80 lbs. Meet Chico! Chico is an approximately 1-year-old, 80-pound white Lab mix with a huge personality, endless enthusiasm, and absolutely no idea how big he is. He is a beautiful blond boy with incredibly unique facial coloring making him stunning. He’s not short on looks. He’s happy, athletic, goofy, and always ready for whatever adventure comes next. If you’re looking for a laid-back dog, Chico isn’t your guy. But if you enjoy an active lifestyle and are willing to mold a young dog into your faithful sidekick consider Chico to be the one. Chico came to Fresno Lab Rescue because he had his last chance at the animal control being housed there since June with no adopters. As a typical dog from the streets, he loves the crinkle sound of trash and has few manners. However, with foster guidance he is learning quickly. Chico is house-trained, can sit, lay down and can be crated, although this big boy would rather be by your side. The best part of Chico is he walks on a leash like an absolute dream which shows the potential of this young boy since he’s mastered the most difficult training task. Training will be a must for Chico. He’s extremely food motivated—hot dogs and beef sticks are worth their weight in gold and he takes them gently—and he’s eager to engage, but he’s never had to learn impulse control or good manners. He has made huge improvements during his time with the fosters but he’s still very much an oversized puppy trapped in an 80-pound body and will need an owner who is willing to provide structure, consistency, and continued training. Chico enjoys chasing tennis balls, although bringing them back is another story. He would much rather race after them than play fetch, and his playful energy makes him a fun companion for someone who enjoys an active dog. He has not been tested with ocean or swimming pool, but we think whatever you are doing he will try. He would do best in a home with another confident, playful, similar energy dog who can match his enthusiasm. He would be fine as a single dog too, but no cats. Chico is not cat friendly. Chico isn’t a dog for first-time owners looking for an easy companion. He’s a big, powerful young dog who needs guidance, boundaries, and someone willing to invest the time to capitalize on the 2nd chance that Lab Rescue of Fresno gave him. The good news is that underneath all that excitement is a happy, affectionate dog who wants to be a gentleman.
