JIM NEEDS A FOSTER OR FOREVER HOME!!!! Name: Jim        Best Guess for Breed:   Schnauzer and terrier mix   Best Guess for Age:   3 years as of August 2026      SEX:    Male   Approximate Weight:   16 lbs   Gets Along With: Jim does well with other dogs. We haven't seen him with cats or kids but we are happy to discuss integration techniques with any potential adopters!   Currently Living at:   South Carolina shelter - needs a foster or forever home in the DC area to get up here. Special adoption considerations: In certain home settings -- where the environment might be loud or more intense -- this dog would do better with another dog in the home to give him confidence.   Jim is Looking For:  A real home. Jim and some other scruffy cuties that look just like him landed in the shelter. They all are sweet - but scared. Jim hasn't seen nearly enough of the world yet so he's both uncertain about new places - AND oh so eager to make up for lost time!   He'd like his own humans for sniffy walks and romps and world exploration. And snuggles, definitely snuggles. Making new pup pals along the way would be great too. And he'd like to go to dog school too - it's never too late to become a scholar!   Most of all, he'd like to know where he belongs, to be safe and loved for all his days. In exchange he promises so much love, so much loyalty. What do you say? Can you see him by your side?   What My Foster Says About Me:   We will update this once he has spent time in foster care.    Heartworm information: Jim is a truly Lucky Dog. He tested positive for heartworms, but landed in a place where heartworm treatment is provided! Heartworm is not contagious to people or other pets, but results from mosquito bites. Heartworm, if left untreated, is life threatening, but after treatment, dogs that were heartworm positive should suffer no significant long-term effects so long as they are kept on a monthly heartworm preventative. Heartworm dogs can resume full active and normal lives, but need to be kept calm for 4-6 weeks after treatment.We are happy to discuss where in the treatment process this Lucky Dog is in right now!
